摘要: An electrolysis cell for polymer electrolyte membrane electrolysis with a cathodic half-cell and an anodic half-cell is provided. The cathodic half-cell and the anodic half-cell are separated from one another by a polymer electrolyte membrane. At least one of the half-cells has a channel structure which is formed by a gas diffusion layer and a bipolar plate. The bipolar plate has a main body made of a metal base material having a coating material. The coating material is present in a homogeneous mixed phase including titanium niobium (TiNb), titanium niobium nitride and also iridium and/or iridium carbide (IrC). A coating to be applied as a protective layer to a metal component of an electrolysis cell is also described. This coating comprises the constituents titanium niobium (TiNb) and titanium niobium nitride (TiNbN) and also admixtures of iridium carbide (IrC) and/or (Ir).

摘要: A flow cell for reducing carbon dioxide may include a first chamber having a gold coated gas diffusion layer working electrode, a reference electrode, and a water-in-salt electrolyte comprising a super concentrated aqueous solution of lithium bis-(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI). A second chamber adjacent the first chamber has a gold coated gas diffusion layer counter electrode and the water-in-salt electrolyte. The second chamber being separated from the first chamber by a proton exchange membrane. A reservoir coupled to each of the first and the second chambers with a pump contains a volume of the water-in-salt electrolyte and a head space.

摘要: An electrolytic cell for polymer electrolyte membrane electrolysis with a cathode half-cell and an anode half-cell is provided. The cathode half-cell and the anode half-cell being separated from one another by a polymer electrolyte membrane. The anodic half-cell has a gas diffusion layer. The gas diffusion layer is made from a fine-meshed metallic carrier material. An anodic catalyst layer with an anodic catalyst material is applied onto the polymer electrolyte membrane. The anodic catalyst layer is arranged adjacent to the gas diffusion layer, wherein a thin protective layer is applied in each case locally and selectively onto the fine-meshed carrier material in the area of the contact points between the gas diffusion layer and the adjoining anodic catalyst layer. The thin protective layer comprises iridium and/or iridium oxide so that the input of anodic catalyst material into the gas diffusion layer is inhibited.

摘要: The present invention relates to a manufacturing apparatus and method for customizing a H2/CO synthetic gas in a desired ratio by producing a synthetic gas in which H2 and CO are mixed through hydrolysis of both carbon dioxide and a nitrogen compound with low power. In a low-power electrochemical apparatus for producing a synthetic gas according to the present invention, by performing the reduction of the carbon dioxide at the cathode and the oxidation of the nitrogen compound at the anode at the same time, carbon dioxide conversion efficiency may be improved 30% or more compared to the conventional carbon dioxide conversion system, and a synthetic gas with a desired H2/CO ratio may be produced by controlling the H2/CO ratio of the produced synthetic gas, and by reducing a driving voltage, the corrosion problem of electrode materials may be inhibited and the durability of electrodes may be increased.

摘要: An electrochemical cell, or stack thereof, wherein each cell of the stack comprises at least: a membrane electrode assembly (MEA), the MEA comprising at least: a cathode, an anode, and an anion exchange membrane therebetween, an inlet to the cathodic half-cell for the introduction of oxygen at a first pressure, and an outlet from the anodic half-cell for the transfer of oxygen at a second pressure, and means to provide a required power to the cell. In one embodiment, the purification and compression of oxygen occurs by utilisation of the following reaction pathway: AEM Cathode O2+4e−+2H2O→4OH−; AEM Anode 4OH−→O2+4e−+2H2O.
