Abstract:
This invention relates to a process to make a reaction product UA of at least one multifunctional aldehyde A with at least one cyclic urea U, by mixing the at least one multifunctional aldehyde A with the at least one cyclic urea U in the presence of at least one alcohol R1—OH, and optionally, at least one solvent that has no reactive groups which may react with aldehyde groups, —CO—NH— groups, or hydroxyl groups, to effect an addition reaction to obtain a solution of a product UA, where R1 is selected from the group consisting of linear, branched or cyclic alkyl groups having from one to twelve carbon atoms, to the reaction product obtained by this process, and to a method of use thereof as crosslinker for coating compositions.
Abstract:
An abrasive product includes a plurality of abrasive particles and a resin cured with a polythiol group. A method of preparing the abrasive product includes contacting the plurality of abrasive particles with a curable composition that includes a resin and a polythiol group, and curing the curable composition to produce the abrasive product. A method of abrading a work surface includes applying an abrasive product to a work surface in an abrading motion to remove a portion of the work surface. A curable composition includes a formaldehyde resin and a polythiol group. A formaldehyde resin is crosslinked by a polythiol group. A method of crosslinking the formaldehyde resin includes reacting the polythiol group with the formaldehyde resin.

Abstract:
A one-step, in-situ, process for producing a high solids content emulsion or dispersion of partially or totally crosslinked urea formaldehyde (UF), melamine formaldehyde (MF), or melamine urea formaldehyde (MUF) resin droplets or particles, by forming a reaction mixture of (i) aqueous formaldehyde (formalin), (ii) at least one water-soluble protective colloid, (iii) water and (iv) optionally a surfactant, and mixing the reaction mixture in a reaction vessel; optionally adjusting the initial pH of the reaction mixture according to a desired value as needed; adding (i) urea or substituted urea, (ii) melamine or substituted melamine, or (iii) a mixture thereof, to the reaction mixture; and heating the reaction mixture to a temperature at which condensation takes place between the (i) urea or substituted urea, (ii) the melamine or substituted melamine, or (iii) the mixture thereof, and the formaldehyde to form a urea formaldehyde, melamine formaldehyde or melamine urea formaldehyde resin, and holding the reaction mixture at that temperature or a higher temperature, under mixing, for a period of time sufficient to achieve a desired degree of crosslinking in said urea formaldehyde, melamine formaldehyde or melamine urea formaldehyde resin; and cooling the reaction mixture. The droplet or particle size of the resulting resin dispersion can be controlled and adjusted by way of the present technique to the application requirements.
Abstract:
Process for the production of aminoplast resins. The process entailing the addition of ureido-2-diamino-4,6-triazine-1,3,5, and optionally melamine, to aminoplast resin. Preferably the triazine is added in a proportion of at least 10% by weight. The resultant aminoplasts can be used to make panels from particles.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a corrosion inhibiting composition for ferrous metals and its alloys in gas conditioning service using aqueous monoethanolamine to scrub carbon dioxide. The corrosion inhibiting composition includes a thiourea-amine-formaldehyde based polymer and, in the preferred embodiment, also includes a nickel ion producing material.
Abstract:
A system and method for the continuous production of an aqueous amino formaldehyde resin solution including the steps of (a) preparing a reaction mixture of an amino compound and an aqueous formaldehyde, (b) adding a catalyst to the reaction mixture, (c) condensation reacting the reaction mixture in the presence of the catalyst in a continuous plug flow, wherein in step (a) the amino compound and the formaldehyde are added as a concentrated aqueous solution or as a solid to a total solid content in the reaction mixture of 40-85 wt % (dry weight relative to the total weight of the reaction mixture), and in step (b) the catalyst is continuously added and finely dispersed into the reaction mixture through one or more addition points and optionally adding an amount of amino compound after condensation and/or removing water to reach a higher solid content.
