摘要： A sheet feeding device includes a guiding member having an upper guiding surface for guiding the upper surface of a document and a lower guiding surface for guiding the lower surface of the document to guide the document to a support portion. The guiding member is movable to a set position for guiding the document to the support portion without causing the document to come into contact with a feeding roller, a recording-sheet separation position withdrawn for separating one sheet from the other recording sheets and feeding the separated sheet, a document separation position for guiding the document to the feeding roller, and a sheet return position for returning the recording sheet or the document to a corresponding support portion using a return lever. The guiding member is held via a spring such that the guiding member can be returned by itself from the sheet return position to the set position.

摘要： A paper feed unit includes a hopper on which sheets are stacked and which is turned around a rotation shaft. The hopper is turned to move apart from or move to a paper feed roller. The paper feed unit has three modes: a large release mode in which the hopper is turned to be most apart from the paper feed roller, a non-release mode in which the printing sheet is abutted against the paper feed roller, and a small release mode in which the printing sheet is slightly separated from the paper feed roller, and is at a medium level between the above two modes. When a paper feeding job is still present, a state that the uppermost printing sheet is slightly separated from the paper feed roller is retained by the small release mode, whereby a swing range of the hopper is minimized.

摘要： After the uppermost sheet is separated from a stack of sheets on a pressure plate by a sheet feed roller, a push plate is lowered by a lowering mechanism by a predetermined distance and is halted at a plate standby position higher than the plate lower position by the engagement of a ratchet pawl with a lock pawl. Accordingly, when the pressure plate is lowered after the sheet is separated, it is unnecessary to lower the push plate to the plate lower position. Thus, the moving up/down distance of the pressure plate is shortened when the sheet is separated and conveyed, resulting in a reduction in impact noise generated upon the contact of the sheet and the sheet feed roller. In addition, because the moving distance is shortened, the sheet feed speed per sheet is increased.
