Abstract:
The invention relates to a tear-open seal packaging (10), with a packaging element (12) having an opening (30) and a tear-open film (14), which closes opening (30) and is connected along its outer edge portion (16) with the opening edge (32) of packaging element (12) by a sealing seam (18). Sealing seam (18) has at least one indentation (26,28) which extends inwards from the outer edge of sealing seam (18), and whose depth of extension is less than width (B) of sealing seam (18) at the point of the indentation (26,28).
Abstract:
The packaging container includes a container body formed from a packaging material, and a cap unit attached to a top wall of the container body. The cap unit includes a lip, a pull tab which covers a discharge opening and an inner tape which covers the discharge opening portion from a reverse side of the packaging material. Since the cap is attached to the packaging material in advance of forming the container, positioning of the container body is not required for cap attachment.
Abstract:
A metal can for holding a carbonated or otherwise pressurized beverage or the like, having a rigid metal lid formed with an eccentrically disposed, upwardly projecting annular flange defining an aperture of average diameter between about 0.625 inch and about 1 inch, and a flexible metal foil closure extending over the aperture and peelably bonded by a heat seal to the sloping outer surface of the flange.
Abstract:
Improved easy open means for containers. Especially adapted to those used for liquids, including carbonated beverages, and permitting drinking from the container or pouring out contents. An important feature is attachment of closure to container after opening to avoid litter. Main feature is an openable segment in the top defined by a score line that extends almost all around its periphery, but interrupted at one point by an unscored section which provides integral hingeable attachment means to secure the segment to the top within the container after opening. Opening of the segment is accomplished by a manually operated elongated leverage lift tab which is hingeably secured to the top by a rivet which is positioned just outside of the segment and close to the score line. The outer longer lift end of the lift tab extends over the container top beyond the segment, and the shorter inner end extends partially over the segment, and comprises a downward pressure exerting extension. When the lift end is raised, the inner end exerts high downward pressure near the score line, thereby rupturing the score line with the rupture starting near the pressure point and extending on around the periphery, and the segment is thereby hinged down into the container where it remains attached to the top by the hingeable unscored section. The lift tab is then folded back out of the way to a position just overlying the container top, and ready for drinking from the can or pouring out the contents. Other features include various lift tab pressure exerting means, depression in top for lift tab, angular positioning of lift tab for improved rupturing and less obstruction to the user, part of score line replaced by adhesive sealing for easier initial rupture, various means for stiffening segment and top, stronger tab hinge means, separate downward pressure points for start and finish of rupture, supplementary score line groove on underside of top.

Abstract:
Disclosed is an easily-openable vessel closure comprising a can end member having a preformed opening and an easily-tearable opening tab arranged on the outer side of the can end member to cover the opening and adhere closely to the peripheral portion of the can end member contiguous to the opening, wherein the opening of the can end member has such a size and shape that the opening is longer in the radial direction of the can end member, the opening extends from the inside of a circle concentric with the can end member, which has a diameter 0.35 time the seaming diameter of the can end member, to the point close to the outer periphery of the can end member and the portion defined by the contour of the opening and said circle involves a circle having a diameter of 5 mm, and wherein a thermoplastic resin coating having a -shaped section is formed on the cut edge of the opening of the can end member and the contiguous peripheral portion of the can end member and the opening tab is bonded to the can end member through said resin coating.
Abstract:
Improved easy opening means for containers. Especially adapted to those used for liquids, including carbonated beverages, and permitting drinking from the container or pouring out contents. An important feature is attachment of closure to container after opening to avoid litter. One closure design has lift tab attached to the closure for easy opening, and with closure sealed by either a frangible adhesive sealant or by membrane sealing means. Lift tab initiates rupture of sealant, and then both lift tab and closure are pushed below container top with means to hold tab below opening so there is no interference when drinking from the can. Another closure has a small end for initial pressure release and starting rupture of sealing means, and then whole closure hinges inwardly. Still another means comprises a slide gate with frangible membrane for sealing and for very easy opening. Slide gate is non-detachable and has sharp points for easier rupture of membrane during opening. Optionally a pressure release button is provided to release internal pressure before pulling the slide gate. An improved forming method for making the opening smaller than the closure where the closure is cut from the ductile metal top material. Partial use of score lines is included. Container top may be ductile metal including aluminum or steel, or of plastic for various forms of the invention. Primary objectives are the elimination of a separate closure device that would cause litter, closure easier to open than heretofore, low cost, and no danger of a piece coming loose inside container.
Abstract:
A metal container having a preformed aperture sealed on a side with an easy open tape laminate made of a flexible strip and a pressure sensitive adhesive. The exposed edge of the preformed aperture in the closure is coated with a cured coating composition comprising a low molecular weight epoxy resin and a urea-formaldehyde curing agent.
Abstract:
A retortable, easily openable closure of the type having a metal end and a membrane closure heat-sealed thereto, wherein the metal end has a coating of a heat-seal composition comprising a food-compatible metal-coating composition blended with polypropylene. The polypropylene disperses within the food-compatible metal-coating composition during curing of the coating on the metal end such that an outer surface of the coating defines a multitude of separate, spaced islands of polypropylene dispersed within the food-compatible metal-coating composition so as to form bonding sites. The membrane closure's lower surface has a heat-seal layer of polypropylene for sealing to the coating on the metal end.
