Abstract:
In a navigation apparatus having a cradle unit that is fastenable to a vehicle and is equipped with at least a microcomputer; and a front panel unit that is attachable to and detachable from the cradle unit and is equipped with at least a display displaying map data and a microcomputer performing a navigation function to indicate a determined location of the vehicle on the map data, it is configured such that a panel is integrally formed at bottom of the cradle unit to be attachable to the vehicle. With this, it becomes possible to provide the navigation apparatus configured such that a member having a microcomputer performing a navigation function is attachable/detachable to/from the main body, i.e., the base unit, thereby improving ease of use, that the member can be easily attached to the dashboard of the vehicle, and that unnatural impression is prevented from arising in the appearance.
Abstract:
A mounting system for motor vehicle audio components is described. The mounting system comprises a chassis and at least one vibration damping element. The vibration damping element is mounted within the chassis in a position to support and secure an audio component. The vibration damping element has a slot receiving a fastener that is connected to the audio component. The fastener secures the audio component in a first position and translates along the fastener slot under a predefined load.

Disclosed is a radio bin spacer that allows for a standard sized radio to be mounting in an instrument panel mounting area sized for the larger style radio.
Abstract:
A locking mechanism is provided for locking a removable data carrier in a support structure of an electronic device. The locking mechanism includes a movable locking element, indicating unit and a locking element control unit. The movable locking element is movable between a locked position and an unlocked position, where the locking element, in its locked position, prevents the removal of the data carrier from the support structure.
Abstract:
An A/V monitor mounting structure for a vehicle allows a monitor installed on a center console of a vehicle to be received in the center console so that the monitor can be extended out of and retracted into the center console as the occasion demands. The A/V monitor mounting structure includes a motor driven in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction when power is applied thereto from an external power source, an operation section installed on a lower end of a rear surface of a monitor to raise and lower the monitor, a gear section for transmitting power from the motor to the operation section, and a clutch section for retarding a moving velocity of the monitor when the monitor is moved upward and downward.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a dashboard for a motor vehicle, with a screen for displaying information, the screen being arranged in front of the dashboard as seen by a vehicle occupant. In order to form a dashboard such that the screen can be read equally well both by the driver and by the passenger, depending on requirements, with the installation space in the region of the dashboard at the same time being utilized in an optimum manner, the screen can be moved along the dashboard in the horizontal direction.
Abstract:
An audio rack has a first and a second storage location, the first storage location accepting a first electrical equipment that has a first width size, and the second storage location being disposed below the first storage location and accepting a second electrical equipment that has a second width size that is smaller than the first width size, the width of the second storage location being smaller than that of the first storage location.
Abstract:
A multimedia system includes a housing having several shelves for receiving multimedia modules. Each module and each shelf is equipped with a plug connector element. The plug connector elements of the modules and of the shelves are compatible and are preferably designed as plugs and sockets. The plugs and the sockets can be designed in the same way so that each module can be plugged into each shelf, or they can be module-specific so that only a module designed for a particular shelf can be plugged into it. When a module is inserted into the shelf of the housing, the plugs are inserted into one another so that the module is now connected to the first bus line, which connects the plug connector elements of the shelves with one another. Over the second bus line other modules situated outside the housing or the rack can be connected to this first bus line. The first and the second bus line together form a common bus line, which is preferably designed as a ring line. With a multimedia system in a motor vehicle, the shelves of the housing or the rack are intended to receive for example a car radio, a cassette player, a CD player, a DVD player, a television receiver, a navigation system, a car telephone, or a handy, while a display apparatus and a control apparatus are situated on the dashboard, and loudspeakers are situated for example in the doors or at other suitable places.

Abstract:
A vehicle computer system has a housing sized to be mounted in a vehicle dashboard or other appropriate location, a computer mounted within the housing, and an open platform operating system which executes on an open hardware architecture computer. The open platform operating system supports multiple different applications that can be supplied by a vehicle user. For instance, the operating system can support applications pertaining to entertainment, navigation, communications, security, diagnostics, and others. The computer has one or more storage drive (e.g., CD drive, floppy disk drive, cassette player, or hard disk drive) which permits the vehicle user to download programs from a storage medium (e.g., CD, diskette, cassette, or hard disk) to the computer. In the described implementation, the computer has two independent processors. One processor, which runs the operating system, is mounted in a stationary base unit of the housing and the other processor is mounted to a faceplate which is detachable from the base unit. When the faceplate is attached, the first processor provides the primary control over all operating systems (i.e., entertainment, navigation, communications, security, diagnostics, and others) and the faceplate processor is subservient. When the faceplate is detached, it forms a portable RF device with the faceplate processor providing radio and communications capabilities.
