    摘要: In a printing hammer driving system, there is provided a character-bearing member having a plurality of identical characters disposed in mutually offset relationship in each of lines. The characters in each of the lines differ from those in any other line. A group of hammers is disposed in opposed relationship with the character-bearing member for impacting the characters thereon. A group of driving circuits is connected to the group of hammers for driving respective ones of the hammers. A group of gates is connected to the inputs of the group of driving circuits for selecting the hammers. Each of the gates has at least two input terminals. Memory means are provided which each have the output thereof connected to one of the input terminals of each gate for storing print digit information. Selector means are provided which each are connected to the other input terminal of each gate for selecting one or more of the gates.

    摘要: A tabulation drive mechanism is described for use with an asynchronous printer mechanism of the sort including a rotating type wheel which has its characters arranged thereon along a helical path. The wheel is rotated continuously about the axis of the helical path during printing and a print drive mechanism includes a lead screw which is coupled to the wheel. A rack and pawl mechanism selectively holds the print wheel at columnar printing positions. The tabulation drive mechanism is basically independent of, and in addition to, the lead screw for driving the print wheel to the right or left during tabulation. The tabulation drive mechanism includes two oppositely acting motors which are linked to the print wheel via magnetic particle clutches. A logic circuit activating the magnetic clutches coordinates the print and tabulation drive mechanisms.

    摘要: The invention is directed to a highspeed digital print-out apparatus. The apparatus involved is provided with tractors which move the paper in a first direction past a stationary print-out wheel which in conjunction with a print hammer imprints preselected indicia upon the paper. The paper is movable in the reverse or third direction, again by the tractors, to initiate a new line of indicia and in a second direction normal to said forward and reverse directions to provide spacing between adjacent lines. There is also provided a reversing mechanism for moving the paper in a fourth direction reverse to the second direction to position the paper for the start of a new sheet.

    摘要: Typewriter carriage actuating mechanism includes ratchet teeth which are successively pushed by an actuating-type pawl to move the carriage. The actuating pawl is swingable toward and away from the ratchet teeth, to permit the teeth to move beneath it, and is also movable parallel to the path of carriage movement to actuate the carriage. A detent pawl positions the carriage after each forward actuation and prevents reverse movement thereof. The teeth and the tooth-engaging portions of the pawls are inclined in such manner that the carriage is movable in both directions by force applied directly to the carriage. At such time the ratchet teeth cam the pawls out of the spaces between the teeth.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for making a metal print drum by isostatic compression of powdered metal using a thin compressible cylindrical character sleeve having relatively deep character depressions in its inner surface. The deep character depressions isostatically allow for the formation of sharply raised print characters on the outer surface of the metal print drum located between the character sleeve and a centrally positioned expandable bag. The expandable bag expands outwardly to compress powdered metal against the inner surface of the character sleeve under a high pressure. After compression of the powdered metal, the metal print drum and character sleeve together are removed from the center of a support ring which was used to support the character sleeve during isostatic compression and the character sleeve is cut from the metal print drum. The metal print drum is then sintered at a high temperature to harden it.

    摘要: In a document printing machine comprising a plurality of interconnected modular sections, there is disclosed herein a printer module having a self container control system. Documents, to be printed upon, are sequentially passed through the printer module under the control and drive of either one of two different speed drive units. The second drive unit initially functions as a control gate to control the feeding of documents into the printer module. When the printing operation is to begin, the second drive unit moves the documents through the printer module at a positively controlled printing speed. After the printing operation, the first drive unit moves the documents out of the printer module at a high speed. In order to maintain the correct character pitch between adjacent serially printed characters, a timing unit is operatively connected to the first drive unit. This timing unit is responsive to drive variations and accurately divides each character pitch into a plurality of intervals. Each interval controls one or more printer operation functions including the actual print operation. In order to maintain the synchronism between the movement of the documents and the character pitch, the second drive unit is clutched from the first drive unit.
