Abstract:
The plastic bag may include flexible thermoplastic sidewalls that have a pattern imparted onto them. The wrinkle pattern may be a plurality of linear ribs formed into the sidewall that may be arranged adjacent and parallel to one another. To impart the pattern to the sidewall, a thermoplastic web used to make the sidewall may be directed between a first cylindrical roller and a second cylindrical roller, each of which may have a plurality of spaced ridges extending about their peripheries. When the web is directed between the first and second rollers, the meshing of the ridges may form ribs into the web.

Abstract:
The bag may include first and second sidewalls joined along a first side edge, a second side edge and a bottom edge. The sidewalls may be un-joined along their top edges to form an opening. When the bag is placed in a trash receptacle, the top edges may be folded over the rim of the receptacle. To assist with securing the bag to the receptacle, the bag may include an elongated elastic strap of elastic material attached by a first end to an attachment point proximate the first sidewall and by a second end to an attachment point proximate the second sidewall. The strap length and attachment point locations are selected so that, when the strap is in a relaxed state, the strap may not extend to the side edge. The strap may be stretched commensurate with the side edge when folding the top edges about the receptacle rim.
Abstract:
Provided is a plastic bag including a live elastic strip that, in the elastic strip's normal condition, contracts thereby constricting an opening of the bag to assist in retaining the bag to an object. The elastic strip includes a first region that is continuously attached to a sidewall of the bag between a first side edge and a second side edge of the bag and a second region that remains unattached to the sidewall. The attached region does not contract but instead forces the portion of the sidewall to which it is attached to pucker into a serpentine path. The unattached region does contract causing the portion of the sidewall to which it is adjacent to bunch together. Also provided is a method for manufacturing a plastic bag that involves stretching a live elastic tape and continuously attaching a region of the stretched tape to a web of plastic material.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for producing draw-cord bags wherein a folded sheet of synthetic material is fed step-wise through an apparatus comprising means for folding the open edges of the sheet back upon themselves and producing a pair of seams, means for punching apertures therein, means for threading at least one draw-cord through each seam and means for producing and applying connectors to the ends of said draw-cords to produce an annular draw-cord, further means being provided for producing welded side edges for said bags and separating same from said sheet. The invention also relates to a draw-cord bag produced by the method and apparatus.
Abstract:
A flat mass-produced bag, preferably of plastic, of a rectangular shape made of two layers and having a mouth at one side adapted to be closed by draw strings which are slidable in hems formed adjacent to the mouth by folding over the free ends of both layers and securing them to the layers. The draw strings have a length greater than the width of the bag and the ends of each pair of corresponding strings are knotted together outside of each lateral side of the bag. When the two knotted pairs of strings are pulled in opposite directions, the mouth of the bag will be drawn closed toward its center.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for making bags or pouches is disclosed. An ultrasonic sealer may be used to form the seals. Sealing patterns may be used to provide a desired strength profile.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a drawstring bag comprising a first panel and a second panel. The first panel and the second panel are joined along a first side, a bottom, and a second side. The first panel and the second panel thereby define an upper opening of the bag. The drawstring bag may further comprise a first pair of drawstrings disposed within a first hem along the upper opening of the bag in the first panel and a second pair of drawstrings disposed within a second hem along the upper opening of the bag in the second panel. The first pair of drawstrings may comprise a shorter elastic drawstring and a longer inelastic drawstring.
Abstract:
Apparatus for inserting a folded film into another folded film include combining the films without unfolding or folding either of the folded films. In particular, one or more implementations include a spreader bar configured to separate layers of a first folded film. Additionally, the apparatus can include one or more orientation rollers configured to direct a second film between the separated layers of the first folded film. Furthermore, the apparatus can include a direction change bar configured to change the direction a travel of the second film while the second film is positioned between the layers of the first folded film.
