    摘要: A pulling-up-type continuous casting apparatus according to an aspect of the present invention includes a holding furnace that holds molten metal, a shape defining member configured to define a cross-sectional shape of a cast-metal article to be cast by a molten-metal passage section through which the molten metal passes, and a nozzle that blows a cooling gas on the cast-metal article, the cast-metal article being formed as the molten metal that has passed through the molten-metal passage section. The shape defining member includes cooling means for cooling the molten metal on an outlet side of the molten-metal passage section, and temperature-maintaining means for maintaining a temperature of the molten metal on an inlet side of the molten-metal passage section. An end face shape of the molten-metal passage section is curved to conform to a surface shape of the molten metal pulled up from the molten-metal surface.

    摘要: When a body of startup material has been interposed in the cavity between the starter block and a first cross sectional plane of the cavity transverse the axis thereof, the starter block has commenced reciprocating along the axis, and the body of startup material has commenced reciprocating in tandem with it, through a series of second cross sectional planes, layers of molten metal are successively superimposed on the body of startup material adjacent the first cross sectional plane of the cavity, and the layers promptly distend relatively peripherally outwardly from the axis under the inherent splaying forces therein. The invention confines the relatively peripheral outward distention of the layers with a casting surface which is peripherally outwardly flared about the axis of the cavity. Initially, at the circumferential outline of the cross sectional area circumscribed by the surface in the first cross sectional plane of the cavity, the casting surface directs each of the layers into the series of second cross sectional planes at relatively peripherally outwardly inclined angles to the axis. Then the surface allows the layer to assume second cross sectional areas whose cross sectional dimensions undergo continual enlargement peripherally outwardly of the axis, so that the thermal contraction forces arising in the layer can counterbalance the splaying forces while the layer freeforms with the other layers into a body of metal at one of the second cross sectional planes of the cavity.

A storage assembly for the starter bar includes a pair of support stands each having spaced drive rolls disposed along the arcuate casting path through which the starter bar passes as it is moved into and out of its stored position. One roll of each stand is fixed and the other is mounted on a pivotal arm engaged by a hydraulic cylinder to provide a pinching effect on the starter bar as it is moved between its operative and stored positions.

    摘要: A continuous casting apparatus comprising a tubular die, a cooler associated with the tubular die, and opposed pairs of drawing rolls associated with the outlet of the die for drawing the cast product from the die. One set of rolls is mounted for rotation about stationary axes and the other set of rolls is mounted for rotation about axes movable radially with respect to the cast product. A starting bar includes a starter tip dimensioned to fit within the die. The starter tip and starter bar are interconnected for adjustment radially relative to one another such that when the starting tip is inserted into the tubular die upon start up of the casting apparatus, the movable drawing rolls can be successively moved radially inwardly or outwardly with respect to the center line of the cast product to maintain the center line of the cast product aligned with the center line between the opposed sets of rolls.
