Abstract:
In one embodiment, a contiguous, elastic cover, for a dissolution-testing vessel, has a slit from a central opening to its outer edge. The cover may be placed around a stirring shaft by deforming the elastic cover to temporarily enlarge the slit. After returning to its original shape, the cover is placed over the vessel with the shaft free to rotate unimpeded within the central opening. The cover has a first raised annular disk on one side and a second raised annular disk on the other side, where the disks have different outer diameters to enable the cover to be used with differently sized vessels. The cover has a first opening having a first diameter and a second opening having a different, second diameter such that a conventional probe fits either at one depth within the first opening or at a different, second depth within the second opening.

An apparatus for processing fluid products, in particular paints and the like, comprising a main structure (11) which defines a housing space (15) having an access opening (16), door means (17) which are coupled to the main structure (11) and which can be selectively moved from a closed position to an open position of at least part of the access opening (16), and vice versa, and support means (20, 22, 50) for at least one container of fluid products to be processed, which support means are housed in the main structure (11) and can be moved from an operating processing position to a position for loading/unloading the at least one container. The door means (17) comprise movement means (22, 17, 74) which mechanically interact with the support means (22, 50) in order to move them from the operating processing position to the loading/unloading position as a result of selective opening of the door means.

A lid member for an original container of a liquid paint component. The lid member is usable with a system for dispensing the paint component from its original container into a paint receptacle according to a paint formula to form a liquid paint mixture. The lid member includes a base portion that is adapted to releasably engage an open top of the paint component container. The base portion has a pour spout through which the paint component can be dispensed, and a movable cover element. The cover element is movable between a closed state, wherein the cover element covers the pour spout, and an opened state, wherein the pour spout is uncovered and the paint component can be dispensed from its original container and into the paint receptacle. A resilient seal mechanism is positioned between the pour spout and the movable cover element for preventing leakage of the paint component, upon tilting of the original container, out of the pour spout past the cover element in the closed state of the cover element. A guide mechanism of the seal mechanism ensures that the cover element is accurately aligned and guided during movement of the cover element between the closed and opened states. A securing mechanism of the seal mechanism ensures that the seal mechanism is properly and securely mounted to the cover element and is unaffected by the attributes of the paint component.

An impeller and shield for a mixing apparatus. A mixing member has upper and lower opposite faces and one or more apertures therethrough. Each of the apertures has an upper periphery defined by an edge of the lower face and a lower periphery defined by an edge of the upper face. The mixing member is preferably an otherwise substantially planar disc having a hole through the center for receiving a motor driven shaft. Preferably, a separate shield member having upper and lower opposite surfaces and an aperture therethrough for receiving the shaft of the motor driven impeller is provided. The impeller and shield are used in combination to minimize the escape of particulate matter into the surrounding air during a mixing operation.

Abstract:
A motorized mixer for mixing bone cement for use in attachment of prosthetics and method for using the mixer. The mixer comprises a mixing chamber, a liner in the mixing chamber, an impeller within the liner, a motor for driving the impeller and programmable memory mechanics for regulating the operations of the motor. The liner comprises a basket for receiving vials of bone cement catalyst and a mixing bowl for receiving the bone cement powder. Preferably the two are permanently attached to one another. The mixing bowl is also used for mixing the two components together to produce the bone cement. During mixing the mixing bowl is maintained under a vacuum to withdraw fumes from the bone cement and to prevent gases from being mixed into the bone cement. Once mixing is complete, a U-shaped trap door releases the mixed bone cement from the mixing bowl, through a discharge tube and into a bone cement cartridge. By maintaining the interior of the bone cement cartridge under a vacuum, the withdrawal of the bone cement is simplified.

A substantially gas tight tank cover is designed such that the structural beams of the cover serve also as an air distribution system for bubbling air through a liquid in the tank. Vertically oriented gas bubbler and orifice devices include hardware enabling easy access to the orifice and bubbler from the top of the tank cover. The design is such that all necessary maintenance including major repairs can be performed from the cover without draining the basin or removing the cover. The system is particularly adaptable to sewage treatment plants, but is advantageous for other applications as well, wherein gases are to be bubbled through liquids at multiple locations.

The application describes a valve device which can be used to open and shut a laterally arranged inlet in an inclined wall of a mixer granulator and which can be used in an automatic operation. The valve device comprises a main body (1) and a piston (2), the piston being movable between a retracted position and an advanced position. The piston (2) comprises a face (3) at its forward end which is inclined to the direction of movement and the device comprises means (24,19) to rotate the piston as it advances and retracts. Thus, the face of the piston can open and close an opening in a wall which extends in a direction at an angle to the said direction of movement of the piston.
