Abstract:
The present invention is directed to multi-layer golf balls including a layer formed from a composition comprising a relatively soft or low modulus HNP, a layer formed from a composition comprising a relatively hard or high modulus HNP, an inner cover layer formed from a thermoplastic composition, and an outer cover layer.
Abstract:
Multi-piece golf balls having at least one layer made from a polyamide non-ionomeric composition are provided. The polyamide composition consists essentially of about 40 to about 99% by weight polyamide; about 1 to about 60% by weight of an acid anhydride-modified polyolefin; and about 1 to about 60% of a fatty acid additive selected from the group consisting of fatty acid salts, fatty acid amides, and mixtures thereof. The ball includes a core, preferably a dual core construction; and a cover of at least one layer. In another preferred construction, a multi-layered core containing an inner, intermediate, and outer core layer is made. For example, the intermediate core layer may be made of a rubber composition; and each of the inner core and outer core layers may be made of the polyamide composition. The resulting ball has high resiliency along with a soft feel.
Abstract:
A golf ball comprising: (a) a core; (b) an inner mantle layer; (c) an intermediate mantle layer; (d) an outer mantle layer; and (e) at least one cover layer; wherein the core has a PGA compression of less than 70, and the core/inner mantle layer/intermediate mantle layer combined construct has a PGA compression of at least 30.
Abstract:
A multi-layer golf ball includes a core, an intermediate layer surrounding the core, and a cover layer surrounding the intermediate layer. The core defines an outer surface that includes a plurality of polygonal land portions substantially aligned on a common sphere, which has a diameter of between 22 mm and 32 mm. The intermediate layer has a radially inward-facing surface that is flush with the outer surface of the core, and has a radial thickness of between 4 mm and 9 mm. The outer surface of the core defines a first set of annular grooves disposed about a first axis, and a second set of annular grooves disposed about a second axis. Each of the first and second set of annular grooves extend radially inward from the common sphere, and the first axis and the second axis are orthogonal.

Abstract:
A thermoplastic multi-layer golf ball has a core center having a shell from about 1-6 mm thick defining an interior space about 12-24 mm in diameter, a core layer at least about 5 mm thick outward from the core center, and a cover. The shell includes a first thermoplastic material with first flexural modulus less than about 15,000 psi. The core layer includes a second thermoplastic material with second flexural modulus up to about 15,000 psi and greater than the first flexural modulus and a specific gravity of at least about 1.5 g/cm3. The cover includes a third thermoplastic material with a third flexural modulus that in a first embodiment is up to about 5,000 psi and less than the first flexural modulus and in a second embodiment is least about 40,000 psi.

An object of the present invention is to provide a golf ball excellent in hitting durability. The present invention provides a golf ball comprising a spherical core and at least one cover layer covering the spherical core, wherein at least a part of the spherical core is formed from a rubber composition containing (a) a base rubber, (b) a co-crosslinking agent, (c) a crosslinking initiator, and (x) an olefin-alkyl (meth)acrylate copolymer, and a content of (x) the olefin-alkyl (meth)acrylate copolymer in the rubber composition ranges from 0.5 part by mass to 7.0 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of (a) the base rubber.
Abstract:
A golf ball is provided that includes at least one layer of material that is a composite of thermoplastic and a second phase material that is dispersed within the thermoplastic. This material may be a blend of thermoplastic and elastomeric material. Preferably, the golf ball comprises a hard sphere core such as a hollow metal core, a layer of Thermoplastic Elastomer Composite, and a cover layer. This results in a golf ball that is legal for play and capable of drive distances essentially equivalent to those of currently available high performance golf balls, but also provides a ball that has less hook and slice during play, while being durable and economical to produce.
