Abstract:
A mattress for use during recovery from buttock surgery includes a first wall and opposed second wall, a peripheral wall, and an interior wall extending between the first wall and second wall, with the interior wall being spaced inwardly from the peripheral wall. A bore bounded and defined by the interior wall has a first opening defined in the first wall and a second opening defined in the second wall. The first opening is of a first dimension and the second opening is of a different second dimension. In particular, the first opening is larger than the second opening. A cup holder is provided in each of the first wall and the second wall. A first pocket is provided on a first side of the mattress and a second pocket is provided on a second side of the mattress. The first pocket is inverted relative to the second pocket.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to shaped body for receiving a skull on a support plane, wherein the shaped body is substantially ring-shaped, and wherein at least in one subregion, the contour of the cross section of the shaped body has a half ellipse inclined with respect to the support plane, and wherein at least in one subregion, the contour of the cross section of the shaped body is asymmetrical.
Abstract:
A mattress (2) which in plan view comprises an inner portion (4) and an outer portion (6), the mattress (2) being such that the inner portion (4) is of a size for being slept on by at least one person, the outer portion (6) extends at least partially around the inner portion (4), and the inner portion (4) has a lower compression rate than the outer portion (6) whereby the weight of the person on the inner portion (4) is distributed over a greater area than would be the case if the inner portion (4) had the same compression rate as the outer portion (6), and whereby the outer portion (6) constrains the inner portion (4) and controls lateral deformation of the inner portion (4) caused by the weight of the person on the inner portion (4), and the mattress (2) being characterised in that: (i) the inner portion (4) is in a shape which has a first part (10) for receiving the head (12) of a sleeping person (8), a second part (14) for receiving the feet (16) of the sleeping person (8), and a third part (18) for receiving the buttocks (20) of the sleeping person (8); (ii) the first part and the second part (10, 14) are narrower than the third part (18); the first part and the second part (10, 14) are sufficiently wide that the first part (10) is able to be for receiving the feet (16) of the sleeping person (8) and the second part (14) is able to be for receiving the head (12) of the sleeping person (8), whereby the mattress (2) is able to turned through 180° with its same side uppermost for facilitating uniform wear of the mattress (2) and prolonged life of the mattress (2); the inner portion (4) comprises a plurality of apertures which define the shape of the inner portion (4); and the apertures extend completely through the mattress (2) whereby the underside of mattress also has the inner portion (4), whereby the mattress (2) is able to be turned over so that its underside becomes its topside and thereby becomes able to receive the sleeping person and thereby further facilitates the uniform wear of the mattress (2) and the prolonged life of the mattress (2).
Abstract:
A double-shell helmet is disclosed. The double-shell helmet includes an outer shell, an impact absorbing material layer affixed to the outer shell on a first side of the impact absorbing material layer, an inner shell affixed to the impact absorbing material layer on a second side of the impact absorbing material layer opposite the first side of the impact absorbing material layer, and a foam layer affixed to the inner shell.
Abstract:
A temperature management pad includes a patient facing side, a cushioning layer for supporting the patient facing side above a surface, a cooling component located in, on, or adjacent the cushioning layer for cooling the patient facing side of the pad for cooling a patient lying thereon, wherein the cooling component includes a conduit formed between the patient facing side and the cushioning layer for circulating fluid through the pad across the cushioning layer. The cushioning layer comprises a gel cushioning layer with a continuous upper surface supporting the patient facing side, which includes channels formed therein. The conduit is supported in the channels for circulating fluid laterally across the gel cushioning layer and through the pad.
Abstract:
In view of the foregoing, an embodiment herein provides an automated self adjusting support system, for human resting appliances like chair, seat, mattress, bed and shoe. Accordingly, the system includes plurality of pillars kept closely together to form surface profile of said appliance for comfortable resting of the human body part, wherein the pillar includes an outer casing, an inner casing, force sensor unit, gear and thread mechanism, and an axial motor, a controller unit connected to the sensors and the motors, which is capable of receiving force output from the sensors and rotate the motors in any direction at desired/variable speed to adjust the height of said pillars, and a processor unit suitably programmed to map the human body part being rested in each area of the pillars, estimate the strength of said area and apply the force proportionate to the strength/hardness in the area.
Abstract:
A shoulder pain alleviating mattress assembly includes a mattress assembly frame, a foot mattress portion carried by the mattress assembly frame, a head mattress portion carried by the mattress assembly frame in spaced-apart relationship to the foot mattress portion and at least one depth-adjustable arm gap between the foot mattress portion and the head mattress portion.
Abstract:
A system and procedure for preventing and enhancing healing of Decubiti ulcers on patients, comprising the steps of placing the patient on a web adapted to support the patient, the web having a patient contacting portion and a non-patient contacting portion, the web having an opening through the web, positioned so that the opening surrounds the ulcer and prevents contact of the web with the ulcer, and using a web support system adapted to support the web by attachment only to the non-patient contacting portion, to solely support the web with a patient on it. The procedure may also include a step wherein a rocking device is used that acts through the web support system to selectively tilt the web and thereby to tilt the patient on the patient contact portion of the web, so that the pressure between the patient and the web is cyclically altered.
Abstract:
A flexible seat cushion, such as a wheelchair cushion, has an upper surface with a support contour for establishing relatively less pressure on skin adjacent to the bony prominences of the person's pelvic area and relatively more pressure on skin covering adjacent tissue masses. A support member is attached to the rear corner of the cushion. The support member has relatively less flexibility than the seat cushion. The support member is retained to a longitudinal and/or transverse side of the cushion to cause the support member to resist deformation of the support contour from contact with the pelvic area of the person when seated on the seat cushion. Connector member may be connected to the support member to extend along longitudinal and/or transverse sides of the cushion to deform and thereby adjust the support contour for better support of the pelvic area.
Abstract:
A flexible support structure of a seat cushion, such as a wheelchair cushion, has an upper surface with a support contour having relief areas for establishing relatively less pressure on skin adjacent to bony prominences of a user's pelvis and having a support area for establishing relatively more pressure on skin covering a tissue mass spaced from the bony prominences. A slit is formed in the rear corner of the support structure and an insertion member is inserted into the slit to change a position of the support area to thereby adjust the support contour for better support of the pelvic area. A cover encases the support structure to resist outward deformation of the support structure. The cover has an extension portion that expands the cover at the rear corner to increase a dimension of the cover to encase an increase dimension of the corner caused by the insertion of the insertion member.
