摘要: A flash tube has an internal gas pressure above 600 millimeters of mercury. It is energized by a capacitor having an operating voltage such that the ratio of the discharge gap of the tube to said operating voltage is no greater than 0.5 centimeters per 100 volts and having a capacitance such that the voltage will not drop by more than 15 percent upon reaching peak current through the tube. In one embodiment the tube has two electrode chambers connected by a duct and the chambers, but not the duct, are cooled. In a second embodiment there are two radiators, one for ultraviolet radiation and the other for infrared radiation. In one form these two radiators are flash tubes operated in a timed manner so that the maximum of the infrared radiation from one coincides with the maximum of the ultraviolet radiation from the other.

摘要: A first pair of antiparallel connected thyristors are connected in series with the a.c. input and the primary of a transformer. These thyristors are ignited respectively at the start of each half cycle. A rectifier is connected across the transformer secondary and across the storage capacitor to be charged. An auxiliary capacitor in series with a resistor are connected across the a.c. input. A second pair of antiparallel thyristors have an ignition device. The latter ignition device is controlled by a voltage derived from a voltage divider across the storage capacitor and ignite the second pair of thyristors some time after the start of successive half cycles. When ignited the respective second thyristor applies the voltage of the auxiliary capacitor across the first pair of thyristors in opposition to the a.c. voltage thereacross to turn off the ignited thyristor of the first pair.

摘要: In an electronic flashlight unit, a controlled semiconductor rectifier is ignited simultaneously with the ignition of flash tube and power from a first capacitor flows therethrough. A voltage of one polarity thereby appears across the rectifier. The discharge causes a voltage drop across a resistor and that voltage drop is used to charge an integrating capacitor in correspondence with the integral of the flash light flux as detected by a photoresistor. At a predetermined integral value a switching action applies the voltage of a quenching capacitor across the rectifier in a manner such that the polarity is opposite to said one polarity. The rectifier is thereby turned off to ensure that the flash tube is quenched. In one embodiment two semiconductor rectifiers each connected in series to a reactor are provided in the flash discharge circuit and a second pair similarly connected in the quenching circuit to enable the use of inexpensive low-power semiconductor rectifiers protected from overloading.

摘要: For generating short-wave radiation flashes an electron flash tube is operated with such a small resistance in the discharge circuit that the peak current of the discharge is substantially defined only by the flash tube the resistance of the remaining discharge circuit being negligible. The tube contains a dead space and is preferably operated stroboscopically at a frequency in the order of magnitude of the main frequency.
