摘要： An ink-jet printer including: (i) a recording head which has an outer surface and includes at least one nozzle opening in the outer surface; (ii) a carriage which carries the recording head and which is reciprocateable in a main scanning direction; and (iii) a waste-ink retaining device which retains a waste ink forcedly ejected from the at least one nozzle of the recording head when a flushing operation is performed by the recording head. The waste-ink retaining device includes an ink receiving portion which is provided below a flushing position to which the recording head is moved to perform the flushing operation, and which receives the waste ink ejected by the recording head, and a first ink retaining portion which receives the waste ink from the ink receiving portion and retains the waste ink and which extends upward such that a top end thereof is positioned higher than a height position of the ink receiving portion.

摘要： The instant application discloses an apparatus including an image forming unit and an image reading apparatus. The image forming unit may be disposed adjacent to the base wall of the image reading apparatus. The image reading apparatus may include a base member including the base wall and a peripheral wall protruding orthogonally from the base wall to define an accommodation region; a movable member configured to reciprocate between one end portion of the accommodation region and another end portion of the accommodation region; a reading unit supported by the movable member; a cable having a first extending portion, a curve portion, and a second extending portion; and a contact reduction portion configured to reduce contact of the second extending portion of the cable with a side wall of the peripheral wall. Various embodiments of the contact reduction portion are also disclosed.

摘要： An image reader includes a casing, a contact glass plate, a contact image sensor, and a sliding mechanism; wherein the contact image sensor has a housing, a light source attached to the housing so as to face the contact glass plate, a plurality of light receiving elements attached to the housing so as to face the contact glass plate and aligned in parallel in a longitudinal direction of the housing, and a bearing formed integral to the housing at a position below a lower surface of the housing; and the sliding mechanism includes a guide shaft provided on the casing and extending in a short direction of the housing and inserted through the bearing, and an urging member elastically which urges the guide shaft toward the contact glass plate so that the housing is pressed against the contact glass plate.

摘要： An image recording apparatus according to an aspect of the invention comprises a first roller pair disposed downstream of a recording unit; a second roller pair disposed downstream of the first roller pair; an inversion guide portion that connects a downstream portion of a conveying path positioned downstream of the recording unit to an upstream portion of the conveying path positioned upstream of the recording unit; a path changeover unit configured to send the recording medium conveyed from the recording unit with a first end as a leading end to the inversion guide portion with the second end as a leading end. In a stop operation, rotation of the first roller pair and the second roller pair stops in a state where the first roller pair nips a vicinity of the second end of the recording medium and the second roller pair also nips the recording medium.

摘要： An image reader includes: a conveyance path forming member; a conveying unit; a reading unit; and a pressing unit. The conveyance path forming member forms a part of a conveyance path extending from a conveyance start position to a discharge position via an image reading position. The conveying unit is capable of conveying documents having different widths along the conveyance path. The reading unit reads the document at the reading position. The pressing unit extends in the document width direction, is disposed as opposed to the reading unit, and holds the document conveyed by the conveying unit in cooperation with the conveyance path forming member by pressing the document against the conveyance path forming member. The pressing unit is divided into a plurality of pressing members that are arranged in the document width direction and that press the documents against the conveyance path forming member independently from one another.

The paper insertion opening includes a first end opening portion, a second end opening portion, and a center opening portion arranged in the longitudinal direction of the paper insertion opening. The paper insertion opening connects a placement unit, in which paper is placed, with a separation and transport mechanism, that separates paper placed in the placement unit and transports paper placed in the placement unit in the transport direction. The first and second end opening portions are each larger in size than the central opening portion.
