An absorption refrigeration system includes a pump assembly 68 having first and second impellers 93, 101 mounted on a common shaft 79, the first impeller serving to draw refrigerant from the evaporator through line 44 and return it thereto through line 48, and the second impeller having first and second passageways 99 and 108 therein. Passageway 99 receives weak absorber solution from conduit 64 via chamber 97 and discharges it through line 104 to the generator, while passageway 108 receives, via conduit 62, a mixture of weak solution from the absorber and strong solution from the generator and forwards the mixture through line 111 to the absorber. Shaft 79 forms part of a motor assembly 47 which receives refrigerant tapped off from line 48 through line 80, the refrigerant serving to cool and lubricate the shaft bearings 82, 90 and to cool the motor before entering the inlet chamber 92 of the first impeller.
