    Abstract: A brake crawler for an elevator-type hard disk drive generally includes a first and second set of clamp arms vertically arranged, each of the first and second sets of clamp arms being capable of exerting a clamping force on a shaft or slider via activation or deactivation of an actuator element associated with each set of clamp arms. The brake crawler further includes an actuator element disposed between the first and second set of clamp arms which allows for movement of the first set of clamp arms away from the second set of clamp arms upon a change in state of the actuator element. Via a specific sequence of activating and deactivating various of the actuator elements associated with the brake crawler, the brake crawler is capable of inch worm-type movement up and down the shaft.

    Abstract: A data storage apparatus includes a disk storage region in which magnetic disks are stored. A carrier mechanism picks up one or more of the magnetic disks and moves them to and from the disk storage region. A data access device of the apparatus includes a structure to receive the one or more magnetic disks from the carrier mechanism and spins the magnetic disks in place. One or more actuator arms are operable to move across a same surface of the one or more magnetic disks. Two or more read transducers are mounted to the actuator arms and operable to simultaneously read from the same surface of the one or more magnetic disks. Two or more write transducers are mounted to the actuator arms and operable to simultaneously write to the same surface of the one or more magnetic disks.

    Abstract: A system includes a library compartment, a player and a gas generator. The library compartment houses a plurality of data storage disks. The player is external to the library compartment and comprises a head that is configured to interact with at least one of the plurality of data storage disks. The gas generator is fluidly connected to the player. An embodiment includes a partition between the library compartment and player, the partition including a selectively openable interlock. In an embodiment, the player has a negative fluid pressure relative to the library compartment. A method of controlling an environment in a disk player is also described. The method includes detecting a composition of a fluid environment in the disk player and detecting a pressure of the fluid environment in the disk player.
