摘要: A heat-assisted magnetic recording head includes a near-field transducer (NFT). The NFT includes a plasmonic disk and a near-field oscillator pair. The near-field oscillator pair includes a receiving oscillator and an emitting oscillator. The receiving oscillator is operatively coupled to the plasmonic disk and configured to receive localized surface plasmons from the plasmonic disk and amplify a near field of the localized surface plasmons. The emitting oscillator is configured to receive the near field from the receiving oscillator and emit the near field toward a surface of a magnetic disk.

摘要: A recording head includes a nanorod configured to heat a hotspot on a recording media, a plasmonic plate configured to concentrate an electric field to excite the nanorod, and a heat sink configured to dissipate heat from the nanorod. The recording head includes a first diffusion barrier plate configured to resist diffusion of materials between the plasmonic plate and the nanorod and a second diffusion barrier plate configured to resist diffusion of materials between the heat sink and the nanorod. The first diffusion barrier plate is disposed between the nanorod and the plasmonic plate and is coupled to a bottom surface of the nanorod. 摘要: A read/write head has an input coupler that receives light at a fundamental mode from an energy source. A mode converter of the read/write head converts light from the fundamental mode to a higher-order mode. The read/write head has a bent waveguide coupled to the mode converter at an interface. The bent waveguide includes a curve with a taper. The taper nullifies the fundamental mode generated in the curve and recovers the higher-order mode at an output of the bent waveguide. A near-field transducer that receives the output of the bent waveguide is offset from the facet of the input coupler in a cross-track direction.

A middle cladding layer is disposed between the core layer and the assistant layer. 摘要: Alignment of a near field transducer (NFT) optical input coupler and a light emitting device involves providing excitation radiation from an excitation light source through an optical input coupler to the NFT and filtering output radiation from the NFT using a short wavelength pass optical filter. The optical input coupler is scanned through multiple positions while the photoluminescent radiation is detected. A first alignment position between the NFT input coupler and the excitation light source is identified based on the detected photoluminescent radiation. A light emitting device is scanned through multiple positions the light output is detected by a detector. A second alignment position between the light emitting device and the detector is identified. The first and second alignment positions are used to align the light emitting device with the optical input coupler.

The near-field transducer also includes a heat sink region having a contact side, a base side, and a circumference that extends from proximal to the media-facing surface to distal from the media-facing surface. The contact side of the heat sink region is in thermal contact with both the peg region and at least a region of the base side of the enlarged region.
