Abstract: According to an embodiment, an electronic device includes a communication circuit and at least one processor connected to the communication circuit. The at least one processor is configured to obtain onboarding information of an external electronic device, identify whether a first application is installed in the electronic device, in response to the first application being installed in the electronic device, execute the first application and determine a second application to control the external electronic device independently from the first application based on the onboarding information about the external electronic device, and in response to the first application not being installed in the electronic device, receive a list of applications capable of controlling the external electronic device from a server and determine the second application to control the external electronic device based on the application list.
