Abstract: Polyisoprene of improved green strength is prepared by reacting maleic acid with polyisoprene of a high cis 1,4 content and containing at least 3% imbibition water by feeding moist polyisoprene and maleic acid to an extruder-desiccator at a temperature in the range of 140* to 200*C and at a rate such that 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of maleic acid are fed per 100 parts of polyisoprene, whereby the reaction of the maleic acid with the polyisoprene and the desiccation thereof occur at the same time.

Abstract: Vulcanizable olefin tetrapolymers are described which are comprised of ethylene, an alpha-olefin having at least 3 carbon atoms, at least one conventional terpolymer such as exodicyclopentadiene, and a minor amount of a polycyclic polyene containing an endomethylene system ortho-condensed with another hydrocarbon ring, and wherein the two carbon atoms common to two rings belong to a conjugated diene system whose double bonds are in the ring other than the endomethylene ring.
