Abstract: The invention relates to a method for preparing a hydrogenation catalyst or catalyst precursor comprising a catalytically active material and a carrier material. The method involves the mixing of an acidic solution comprising metal ions of a metal selected from the IUPAC group 8, 9 or 10 metals, preferably cobalt, a suspension comprising the carrier material and an alkaline solution. The invention also relates to a precursor of a hydrogenation catalyst wherein the precursor comprises crystallites of metal oxides having an average size of max. 8 nm.

Abstract: A catalyst bed comprising a ceramic or metallic foam comprising one or more NOx reduction catalysts is described. A method for reducing the concentration of NOx in a dust containing gas stream comprising: a) passing a first gas stream containing NOx into a contacting zone; b) contacting the first gas stream with a ceramic or metallic foam catalyst bed having one or more flow paths through the catalyst bed wherein the ceramic or metallic foam comprises a NOx reduction catalyst to produce a second gas stream with a reduced NOx concentration; and c) passing the second gas stream out of the contacting zone wherein the first gas stream has a dust concentration of at least 5 mg/Nm3 and the pressure drop of the foam catalyst bed increases by 300% or less relative to the initial pressure drop of the foam catalyst bed due to dust accumulation, measured under the same conditions is also described.

Abstract: A method for generating a carboxylic acid from carbon dioxide (CO2), the method includes (a) feeding a gas stream having the CO2 to a first reactor having a base (MOH) to produce bicarbonate (MHCO3) and (b) feeding the MHCO3 generated in the first reactor to a second reactor disposed downstream from the first reactor. The second reactor includes a catalyst. The method also includes (c) contacting the MHCO3 with hydrogen gas in the presence of the catalyst in the second reactor to produce formate (HCOOM) and (d) electrolysing an aqueous solution of a metal halide (MCl) in a chloro-alkali electrolysis reactor fluidly coupled to the first reactor, the second reactor, or both to produce at least a portion of the MOH, the hydrogen gas and Cl2. The portion of the MOH is used in step (a) and the carboxylic acid is formic acid (HCOOH).

Abstract: Presented is a selective hydrogenation catalyst and a method of making the catalyst. The catalyst comprises a carrier containing bi-metallic nanoparticles. The nanoparticles comprise a silver component and a palladium component. The catalyst is made by incorporating an aqueous dispersion of the bi-metallic nanoparticles onto a catalyst carrier followed by drying and calcining the carrier having incorporated therein the dispersion. The catalyst is used in the selective hydrogenation of highly unsaturated hydrocarbons contained olefin product streams.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing a catalyst, which comprises: mixing a copper salt containing solution with a silicate salt containing composition resulting in a precipitated solid; and subjecting the precipitated solid to a temperature in the range of from 150 to 500° C. Further, the invention relates to a copper containing catalyst obtainable by said process. Still further, the invention relates to a hydrogenation process wherein such copper containing catalyst is used, more in particular a process wherein methyl phenyl ketone is hydrogenated into methyl phenyl carbinol.
