Abstract: A printing apparatus includes a print unit; a first roller that transport the medium; a plurality of second rollers cooperating with the first roller to nip the medium therebetween at positions that face the first rollers; a third roller that holds the medium which has been transported by the first roller and transport the medium to a print path in which printing is performed by the print unit; a specific second roller located most downstream in the transportation path among the second rollers; and a control unit that controls each of the roller and the print unit, wherein the control unit causes the specific second roller to be displaced to a separated position after the medium is held by the third roller.

Abstract: When printing is performed on a medium, a computer of a printing apparatus acquires a space (a PLG level number and a thickness of the medium) between a surface of the medium and a print head, which is formed when an ink is discharged onto a medium from the print head in a printing unit. A high speed/low speed of a carriage speed (print speed mode), print color (monochrome/color), and a transport region (normal region/lower end region) as a transport position of the medium are determined. A calculation expression is selected according to the carriage speed, the print color, and the transport region, and a correction amount according to a gap length is calculated using the selected calculation expression. Also, the transport distance is corrected using the correction amount. Transport control is performed by the transport distance.

Abstract: A serial inkjet printer includes a recording head having a plurality of nozzles between which a pitch is X inches, a carriage, a first roller pair, and a second roller pair. The first roller pair is configured to move a medium at an upstream side of a conveyance direction of the medium relative to the recording head, and includes a drive roller with a hollow structure and a driven roller. A circumferential length Y of the drive roller is 2 to 4 inches. When a length along the conveyance direction of a row formed by the nozzles is Z inches, Y is greater than Z. While repeating scanning of the recording head and conveying of the medium, recording is performed in band units at a printing speed of 20 to 30 ipm, and stop error precision of the medium during conveyance is X/2 inches or less.

Abstract: When a paper jam is detected, in the case where the cause of the paper jam is a CR motor error in which the speed of the carriage is decreased by as much as a load when the paper jam occurs and becomes equal to or less than a set speed, when there is an instruction to continue printing, cleaning is performed on a printing head.
