Abstract: Disclosed is a display apparatus including a display, a communicator, and a processor which identifies an external apparatus to be remotely controlled and a remote-control characteristic about the external apparatus, selects one among a plurality of remote-control protocols based on the identified remote-control characteristic, controls the communicator to receive a signal of content from the external apparatus based on the selected remote-control protocol, and controls the display to display an image of the content based on the received signal.
