    Abstract: A marker is arranged to indicate the presence of ultraviolet radiation. The marker includes at least an emitting layer having a fluorescent material arranged to emit visible light in a first range of wavelengths in response to excitation by ultraviolet radiation in a second range of wavelengths. The emission of visible light is reversible, and the marker is reusable. The marker may be a warning sign, and may be adhered to a surface or incorporated into a freestanding portable apparatus.

    Abstract: An aircraft includes an aircraft cabin having a number of rows of seats, at least one aisle, and at least one exit. An emergency lighting system having a first and second lines on opposing sides of the aisle, each line comprising a non-continuous series of photoluminescent markers separated by at least a longitudinal distance in the direction of the respective line. An exit path identifier is arranged to guide passengers from the aisle to the exit. Each line comprises an alternating series of first and second markers. The first photoluminescent markers have a first length and the second markers have a second length, the first length either the same as or shorter than the second length. At least the second markers are located on or adjacent to a seat adjacent to the aisle and the first markers are arranged to block the non-exit paths.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing an aircraft photoluminescent marker that comprises a substrate includes providing an ink or coating adapted to be cured with ultra violet (UV) radiation and printing one or more markings directly onto the substrate of the photoluminescent marker with the ink or coating, followed by curing the ink or coating with UV radiation. The substrate is one of a photoluminescent material or a housing, and the marking comprises at least one of a pattern, wording, images, blocks, or indicia.

    Abstract: Non-emergency illumination apparatus (10) arranged in use to mark a location of an article, fixture or fitting in an aircraft cabin, the apparatus including: an emitting layer (2) including a photoluminescent material, the photoluminescent material emitting visible light in a first region of the electromagnetic spectrum in response to excitation by light from a second region of the electromagnetic spectrum, different to the first region; and a protective layer (6) overlying the emitting layer, the protective layer transmitting light from the first and second regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, wherein the non-emergency illumination apparatus is constructed and arranged to be placed in proximity to an article, fixture or fitting, such that the apparatus marks the location of the article, fixture or fitting when excited by light from the second region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The illumination apparatus can comprise a carrier matrix. The illumination apparatus aids location of items such as headphone sockets and power sockets in low lighting conditions so calming passengers.
