Abstract:
In an implementation of a printing system, an electrophotographic imaging plate electrostatically attracts a first concentration of an ink having a particular color. A developer unit is biased with a developer voltage and the first concentration of the ink is transferred onto the electrophotographic imaging plate from the developer unit according to the developer voltage. The electrophotographic imaging plate then electrostatically attracts a second concentration of the ink. The developer unit is biased with an adjusted developer voltage and the second concentration of the ink is transferred onto the electrophotographic imaging plate from the developer unit according to the adjusted developer voltage.
Abstract:
Automated inspection method for detecting a defect in a printed image, comprising processing a raster image, sending the raster image to a print process, printing a printed image corresponding to the raster image onto a medium, capturing a target image from at least a part of the printed image at a lower resolution than the printed image, at least in a medium moving direction, converting at least a part of the raster image to a reference image, and comparing the reference image to the target image.
Abstract:
The final-hardcopy operating facility, “target facility”, converts the content provider's original data file to a different color space to form a proofing data file. A proofing facility, which is distinct from the target facility, uses the proofing file to produce a visible proof for viewing by the content provider, customer etc. A common proofing file is applied to both preparing the proof and printing the final hardcopy. Because it is the target facility rather than the content provider or the proofing facility that prepares the proofing file, using maximum available knowledge about the printing equipment which will be used and its color characterization and other technical behavior, this approach gives maximum assurance that the final hardcopy will represent the proof as accurately as practical.
Abstract:
A color plane registration error method and system include printing a plurality of predetermined patterns of dots, each predetermined pattern having the respective dots arranged symmetrically around a common center of gravity. The center of gravity of each of the printed patterns and the distances between centers of gravity of respective patterns are determined to measure the color plane registration error.
Abstract:
A method for designing a screen includes receiving screen information related to a picture element divided into a number of subunits of the picture element, and determining an amount of an ink to apply to a media at a location of the picture element in response to the information. The subunits of the picture element have a higher resolution than the resolution of a printing apparatus at which the printing element will be reproduced.

Abstract:
A system and method for page composition in a processor-controlled printing system. Formatted image data is first received to a processor, the data representing image elements to be merged into a new document. At least one compressed cell describing each of the page elements is generated based on the formatted image data. A compressed cell contains pixilated image data of a predetermined pixel size. An element table including at least one cell pointer for each page element is generated. Each cell pointer includes a memory location and a cell type for each compressed cell that is pointed to by the generated element table. A merged page is composed based on the cell type entries of the element tables. A page composition system and a computer readable media having computer instructions for implementing the method of page composition are also provided.
Abstract:
A method, program product and system for generating a production ready document in a commercial printing environment including a designer location and a print service provider location, where the method comprises creating a file at the designer location using updated device configuration information from the print service provider location, selecting a document profile for the file from a plurality of document profiles available at the print service provider location, applying the selected document profile to the file and adjusting characteristics of the file, if necessary, to ensure that the file is a production ready document, submitting the production ready document to the print service provider location via an electronic network, and performing at least one of automated printing, finishing, packaging and shipping using the production ready document. Also, a method, program product and system for generating a production ready document in a commercial printing environment including a designer location and a print service provider location, where the method comprises selecting a document profile corresponding to a particular type of production project from a plurality of document profiles available at the print service provider location, creating a file at the designer location using the selected document profile and updated device configuration information from the print service provider location to ensure that the file is a production ready document, submitting the production ready document to the print service provider location via an electronic network, and performing at least one of automated printing, finishing, packaging and shipping using the production ready document.
Abstract:
A portable document format (PDF) file includes a graphical object and a corresponding spot color space. The spot color space is represented by at least one spot color name and an alternate representation of the spot color with device-independent data.
Abstract:
An integrated workflow for commercial printing with an automated, pre-submittal preflight check. The present invention provides a method, program product and system for managing workflow in a commercial printing environment including a designer location and a print service provider location, where the method comprises creating a press ready file at the designer location using updated device configuration information from the print service provider location including performing an automated preflight check of the press ready file to identify errors in the press ready file, submitting the press ready file to the print service provider location via an electronic network and performing at least one of automated printing, finishing, packaging and shipping using the press ready file.
