Abstract:
A refrigerated food is packaged in a paperboard tray covered by a plastic film bonded to upper edges of the tray sidewalls in provision of a barrier against contamination of the food. The film and the tray are transparent to microwave energy for heating the food, and automatic venting of the covered tray, while heating, is afforded by a relatively small strip of electrically conductive material on the film and absorptive of microwave energy in an amount sufficient to heat the same and melt a vent opening in the film.

An insulating paperboard container is disclosed including a container body having a side wall and a bottom wall with the one side wall including a base layer and an insulating layer on at least a portion of the base layer, preferably on an inside surface of the side wall. The insulating layer being selectively adhered to at least a portion of the base layer such that the selective adhering of the insulating layer to the base layer creates air pockets between the insulating layer and the base layer with the air pockets being expandable in response to contact with a heated liquid. Such a container is formed from an insulating stock material comprising a paperboard base layer and an insulating layer overlying at least a portion of at least of one surface of the base layer with the insulating layer being selectively adhered to the surface of the base layer forming enclosed regions between the base layer and the insulating layer. In order to ensure the formation of pronounced air pockets between the insulating layer and the base layer, the paperboard base layer may be debossed, creating debossed regions with the insulating layer being adhered over the openings of the debossed regions.

Abstract:
A device for applying a stretch film lid to a cup has a planar stretching member, including a relatively rigid peripheral portion, and a multiplicity of finger elements spaced thereabout and extending inwardly therefrom. The finger elements are readily displaceable from the plane of the stretching member, and define, upon displacement, a passageway configured to permit the cup to pass through. Securing means is engageable with the stretching member to secure a stretch film thereto. When a cup is urged against the stretching member, it displaces the finger elements, thereby defining the passageway, with the finger elements and securing means cooperating to extend the stretch film along a plurality of axes, to permit the application of the stretched film to the cup.
