摘要： Apparatus for use in controlling the position of a tool relative to a workpiece for the purpose of machining a crowned roll, comprises motor control means for causing relative movement between the tool and roll with respect to a cross axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the roll such that the position of the tool relative to the roll as measured along the cross axis is equal to Hz2/C, where z represents the tool position relative to the roll as measured along its longitudinal axis, and H and C are constants which determine, respectively, the arc height and arc length of the crown.
