A stable rewritable multi-layer information recording medium capable of suppressing noises and a recording apparatus for the same. The multi-layer information recording medium is capable of recording/rewriting information, provided with a plurality of recording layers sequentially layered through spacer layers. Each recording layer is made of a material that changes reflectance upon irradiation of a beam of light, each recording layer is provided with alternately and adjacently aligned information rewritable regions and pre-pit regions where predetermined information has been written. Average reflectance of the rewritable regions is different from average reflectance of the pre-pits regions. In this construction, the pre-pit regions have recording marks that lessen a difference between the average reflectance of the rewritable regions and the average reflectance of the pre-pit regions. The recording apparatus for recording/rewriting information by irradiating a beam of light to a multi-layer information recording medium capable of recording/rewriting information, includes a circuit for generating a recording mark signal for recording a recording mark of a predetermined length in each of the pre-pit regions while the beam of light is irradiated on the pre-pit region.
Abstract:
A defect on a DVD-RAM is detected by using a track error signal TE and an RF signal before the decoding thereof, which are used for the position control of an optical pickup. Because the defect detection is performed by using the track error signal TE and the RF signal before the decoding thereof, even if the verification and reproduction of information are not performed, it is possible to make or update a defect list and increase the accuracy of the defect detection. It is possible to extract only information about the defect which is the obstacle of the information recording realistically and collect it on the defect list.

It is an object to provide a recorded information reproducing apparatus that allows to eliminate crosstalk from an adjacent track correctly, even from a recording medium having both a recorded area in which information data are recorded and an unrecorded area. In order to detect a crosstalk component from an adjacent track based on a correlation between a main read signal read from a main track and a sub read signal read from an adjacent track, the relative phase between the sub read signal and the main read signal is shifted.

The output bits that are shifted in order in the direction from stage R0 to R13 of a 14-stage shift register select Maximum-length sequences, which are generated by a specific primitive polynomial that correspond to a scramble number, from a selection table based on disk position data. Moreover, three selection bits are output according to the connection relationship with the selected Maximum-length sequences, and after the exclusive OR has been taken in order by the EXOR circuit, they are fed back to the initial stage R0. The recording data are scrambled by using the Maximum-length sequences that are generated in this way, making it possible to perform scrambling with little correlation and high reliability regardless of the recording position.

The object of the present invention is to provide a data recording method and optic recording medium that is capable of reproducing address data accurately by reducing the correlation of address data between adjacent tracks, reducing the effect of cross-talk between adjacent tracks on the recording clock and by making it possible to apply a cross-talk canceller to the wobble signal. The data-recording method of recording data while controlling the correlation between a first data string and a second data string that are contained in recording data, and is provided with a selecting process of selecting inversion/no inversion of first data string such that the correlation between first data string and second data string is reduced; and a recording process of recording first data string according to selected inversion/no inversion polarity, and recording control code that indicates whether inversion/no inversion was selected for first data string.

An information reproduction apparatus for reading information of an optical recording medium is provided with: a first detecting device which supplies a difference between respective output signals optically obtained by a pair of detectors for reading information of a first track; a second detecting device and a third detecting device which supply a difference between respective output signals optically obtained by a pair of detectors for reading information of a second track and a third track respectively, the third and second tracks being placed on opposite sides of the first track; a crosstalk extracting device which extracts crosstalk caused by the second and third tracks, which is included in a detected signal supplied from the first detecting device; and a tracking control device which executes tracking control for the first detecting device based on a balance between the crosstalks caused by the second and third tracks.

There are disclosed an information reproduction apparatus, signal processing apparatus, and information reproduction method which can remove a crosstalk to a wobble signal, particularly a crosstalk attributed to an RF signal. The information reproduction apparatus for reading information of an optical recording medium includes a detector for outputting a difference between individual output signals optically obtained by a pair of detectors for reading the information of a first track, a detector for reading RF information of a second track adjacent to the first track, a demodulator for demodulating a detection signal outputted from the detector, and a crosstalk canceller which uses the detection signal outputted from the detector to cancel the crosstalk arising from the RF information of the track included in the detection signal outputted from the detector.

A waveform equalizer is designed to perform high frequency enhancement on a read signal without increasing inter symbol interference even when the shortest run length of the read signal is not greater than twice the clock period of the channel clock signal. An addition value of weighted values of signal levels of an amplitude limited read signal obtained by limiting the amplitude of the read signal, where the signal levels are at first and second points of time, is added to a signal level at an intermediate timing of the first and second points of time, and a result of the addition is outputted as an equalization corrected read signal.

In a cross-talk canceller (CTC) that removes the cross-talk from the adjacent tracks that is contained in the reproduction signal from the main track, a sample-value series S1null for the reproduction signal from the adjacent track is input to a correlation-detection unit to find its correlation with the signal pattern of the signal output from the CTC that is detected by a pattern-detection unit, and then it passes through one of the correction-coefficient units that is connected by the switch and then integrated by the integrator, and the tap coefficient used by the variable filter of the CTC is obtained to a narrow control frequency zone.
