Abstract: According to an example aspect of the present invention, there is provided an apparatus configured to perform as a base station central unit control plane node, setup, into an inactive state, a protocol connection with at least one client node, wherein the apparatus does not control or actively serve the said client node while the protocol connection is in the inactive state, synchronize, while the protocol connection is in the inactive state, at least one control plane user equipment context of the base station from a second base station central unit control plane node which controls the at least one client node, and responsive to receiving an instruction from outside the apparatus, switch the protocol connection into an active state and begin controlling the at least one client node. The apparatus may serve user equipments directly or indirectly.

Abstract: A user equipment configured to: store a L2 and/or L3 multicast capability, wherein a L2 multicast operation enables the user equipment to receive a first L2 message from a first network node, and a second L2 message from a second network node, wherein a payload of second message is a duplicate of a payload of the first message, and wherein a L3 multicast operation enables the user equipment to receive a third L3 message from a third network node, and a fourth L3 message from a fourth network node, wherein a payload of fourth message is a duplicate of a payload of third message, transmit the L2 and/or L3 multicast towards the first or third node, receive a message from the first or third node, wherein the message includes an indication to activate the L2 and/or L3 multicast, and activate the L2 and/or L3 multicast based on the message.

Abstract: Improved techniques of intra and inter distributed unit mobility include determining, by a user equipment served by a source cell, whether a target cell belongs to the same distributed unit as the source cell based on information sent by the central unit (control plane) after a connection with the network node has been established. The information sent by the network node includes, for each cell, a group identifier identifying the distributed unit with which that cell is associated. When measurement data provided by the user equipment indicates readiness for a serving cell change to a target cell, the user equipment uses the group identifier to determine whether the target cell belongs to the same distributed unit as the source cell (intra-distributed unit mobility scenario) or a different distributed unit as the source cell (inter-distributed unit mobility scenario).

Abstract: Examples of the present disclosure relates to a user equipment (UE), centralized unit (gNB-CU) of an access node (gNB), a distributed unit (gNB-DU), and an access node for managing the UE’s state transition. In an example of the present disclosure there is provided a UE comprising means receiving, from an access node, at least one first message for transitioning the UE from an RRC connected state to an RRC inactive state, wherein the at least one message comprises configuration information that enables the UE to use Contention Free Random Access (CFRA). The UE further comprises means for sending, using CFRA based at least in part on the configuration information, at least one second message for transitioning the UE from a Radio Resource Control (RRC) inactive state to an RRC connected state.
