A parameter setting method of a measuring instrument includes: reading model information, measurement-related setting items, and parameters corresponding to the setting items, which are stored in the measuring instrument, and temporarily storing the read data in a storage unit of a computer; displaying an appearance image of the measuring instrument corresponding to the model information on the screen and displaying icons for selecting an operation on the screen at predetermined positions of the appearance image on the screen in correlation with each other; displaying the setting item, which is able to be selected by an operation in the measuring instrument relevant to the predetermined position corresponding to the selected icon, on the screen when selection of the icon is received; receiving changing of the parameter corresponding to the setting item using the computer; and transmitting the changed parameter from the computer to the measuring instrument.

A displacement measuring instrument includes an encoder that detects the amount of moving displacement of a measuring element while the measuring element is in contact with the surface of an object to be measured, a calculator that calculates a measurement value, and a display that displays at least the measurement value. The calculator includes a measuring section that calculates the measurement value from the amount of moving displacement and displays the measurement value on the display, a speed acquiring section that acquires the speed of the measuring element, an approach analyzing section that analyzes and determines whether the approach of the measuring element to the object to be measured is appropriate or inappropriate, and a warning section that issues a warning when the approach analyzing section determines that the approach of the measuring element to the object to be measured is inappropriate.

There is provided a method for controlling a small-sized adjustable measuring force measurement device capable of appropriately setting the origin.A central control unit changes an operation mode to an origin setting mode in response to predetermined mode changing operation. The central control unit sets a counter value of an encoder to zero as an origin when a measuring force detecting means detects that a movable member is brought into contact with an object to be measured at a predetermined pressure in the origin setting mode.

A measuring instrument includes a main body casing, a detector on the main body casing and detecting an amount of stylus head displacement, a display on an outer surface of the casing; a plurality of key switches on the outer surface, a menu proximate the display on the outer surface, and a display controller controlling the display. The display includes a main display and a cursor display, which is arranged in a location alongside the menu and displays a cursor pointing to the menu, and performs control such that a measured value based on an amount of displacement is displayed, but the cursor is not displayed when in a measurement mode where the detector detects the amount of displacement, and such that a cursor is displayed so as to point to the menu corresponding to a selected menu when in a settings mode where measurement conditions are set.

A digital displacement measuring instrument includes: a body; a spindle; an encoder; a display; a speed information detector that detects a moving speed of the spindle; a judging unit that judges whether or not the spindle is stopped based on the moving speed detected by the speed information detector and, when the judging unit judges that the spindle is stopped, judges whether or not the moving speed of the spindle just before the spindle is stopped exceeds a predetermined threshold; and a notifying unit that notifies a judgment result provided by the judging unit.
