Abstract: The present disclosure generally provides for advanced single camera video conferencing systems and methods related thereto. The advanced single camera video conferencing system features a hybrid optical/digital camera, herein a camera device, having a controller that is configured to execute one or more of the methods set forth herein. In one embodiment, a method includes optically framing a first portion of a video conferencing environment to provide an actual field-of-view, digitally framing a second portion of the video conferencing environment to provide an apparent field-of-view that is encompassed within the actual field-of-view, generating a video stream of the apparent field-of-view, surveying the actual field-of-view to generate survey data, and detecting changes in the survey data over time. The method may be performed using a single camera device using a single image sensor.

Abstract: In one or more embodiments a computer implemented method includes generating, by a sensor, a video stream that comprises a series of frames that include a plurality of objects positioned within an environment, determining the objects captured within at least one frame of the video stream, determining one or more croppings for each of the objects in the at least one frame, determining a ranking of the one or more croppings based on a determined total combined loss value for each the one or more croppings, determining each subtiling combination for each of the one or more croppings, each subtiling combination comprising at least one subtile that includes at least one object; determining a total subtiling penalty value (TSPV) for each subtiling combination, and determining a preferred subtiled combination based on the total combined loss value of each the one or more croppings and the TSPV of each subtiling combination.

Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure provided herein can be used to improve the control, selection and transmission of data to a remote video conferencing environment, by use of a plurality of wired or wirelessly connected electronic devices. In one example, the transmission of data from a local environment can be improved by switching the source of visual inputs (e.g., cameras or display of an electronic device, such as laptop) and/or audio inputs (e.g., microphones) to the one or more appropriate visual and audio sources available within the local environment. The most appropriate visual and audio sources can be the sources that provide the participants in the remote environment the most relevant data giving the remote users the best understanding of the current activities in the local environment.

Abstract: Embodiments herein generally relate to video-conferencing systems, and more particularly a method and system for optimally grouping and auto-cropping a field of view (FOV) of the video-conferencing system based on predefined preferences, such as preferences determined by a user. Generally, embodiments of the disclosure provided herein include a video-conferencing system that is configured to update the presentation of participants within a video conference to regularly determine the optimal presentation of the participants at any given moment in time based on predetermined preferences, while mitigating defects and related unwanted distractions typically generated in the video conference presentation due to the changes provided in the updates. Embodiments of the disclosure allow the predetermined preferences to each be given an importance level rating so as to allow the presentation of the participants to be optimally provided without making unnecessary and/or distracting updates to the video conference presentation, and also help resolve conflicting or competing attributes of related preferences.
