Abstract: This application provides a packet transmission method, apparatus, and device. For example, the method is performed by an ingress node. The ingress node obtains a second packet by using first node information carried in a first packet, where the first node information includes a first bit string indicating N next-hop devices of the ingress node and first reference information used for indexing second node information corresponding to a first intermediate node in the N next-hop devices, and the second packet includes a first identifier determined based on the first reference information. The ingress node sends the second packet to the first intermediate node. Because structures of the first bit string and the first reference information are used, a packet encoding manner is simple, so that packet transmission efficiency is improved.

Abstract: A method includes that a first routing device obtains a first identifier and a second identifier that are advertised by the second routing device. The first identifier is a bit forwarding router (BFR)-identifier (ID) of the second routing device that is valid in a bit indexed explicit replication (BIER) sub-domain to which the second routing device belongs. The second identifier is used to indicate being used only as a bit forwarding ingress router (BFIR). The first routing device skips, based on the first identifier and the second identifier, setting a bit that is in a forwarding bit mask (F-BM) and that corresponds to the first identifier. The F-BM is included in all BIER forwarding entries corresponding to the BIER sub-domain on the first routing device.

Abstract: A packet processing method includes a first network device receiving a first Bit Index Explicit Replication (BIER) packet including a first BIER header. The method includes: receiving a BIER packet that is encapsulated using an IPv6 protocol and that is sent by a second forwarding device, where the BIER packet includes an IPv6 basic header and a BIER header, a destination address field in the IPv6 basic header is a first IPv6 address of the first forwarding device; determining, based on an identifier corresponding to a first IPv6 address in a forwarding table, to perform BIER forwarding on the BIER packet, where the identifier is used to indicate that the first IPv6 address is a destination address for BIER forwarding. In the technical solution provided in this application, a node may determine, based on the identifier of the first IPv6 address, to perform BIER forwarding on the BIER packet.
