Abstract: This application provides a mode division multiplexer, which includes a metasurface of an electromagnetic resonance unit that has a plurality of sub-wavelengths disposed in an array. The electromagnetic resonance unit is configured to perform phase modulation on a beam transmitted to the electromagnetic resonance unit, to convert a spatial mode order of the beam. Because a size of the electromagnetic resonance unit is a sub-wavelength, and a pixel size of the electromagnetic resonance unit is smaller than a pixel size of a spatial light modulator in the prior art, crosstalk between different spatial modes after phase modulation performed by the mode division multiplexer is comparatively low. In this way, the crosstalk is comparatively small when beams in different spatial modes are multiplexed into a few-mode/multi-mode fiber. The mode division multiplexer in this application can implement polarization-independent phase modulation.

Abstract: An example optical fiber signal mode conversion apparatus includes a non-single-mode optical fiber and a single-mode optical fiber. The single-mode optical fiber forms, with the non-single-mode optical fiber, a first coupling region and a second coupling region along a signal transmission direction in the non-single-mode optical fiber, where an effective refractive index of a fundamental mode signal of the single-mode optical fiber in the first coupling region is equal to an effective refractive index of a signal in a first mode, the signal in the first mode is coupled to a fundamental mode channel of the single-mode optical fiber, and an effective refractive index of the fundamental mode signal of the single-mode optical fiber in the second coupling region is equal to an effective refractive index of a signal in a second mode.

Abstract: An electro-optic modulator, a manufacturing method thereof, and an optical communication system are provided. The electro-optic modulator includes a substrate and a dielectric layer located on a side of the substrate. An organic waveguide and electrodes on two sides of the organic waveguide are disposed in the dielectric layer. A refractive index of the organic waveguide is greater than a refractive index of the dielectric layer. A material of the organic waveguide is an organic material having electro-optic effect. A dielectric waveguide is disposed in the organic waveguide. The dielectric waveguide and the organic waveguide form a composite waveguide. A refractive index of the dielectric waveguide is greater than the refractive index of the organic waveguide.
