Abstract: A communication method and apparatus resolve invalid communication in a packet loss scenario of an XR service, so that device power consumption is reduced, and communication resources are saved. A first communication device obtains information about a data unit to which a data packet belongs, where the data unit includes one or more data packets. The first communication device discards a data packet that is being transmitted and a data packet that is not transmitted that are in the data unit. The first communication device sends indication information to a second communication device, where the indication information includes the information about the data unit.

A communication device first determines a transmission delay of a first data packet from a server to a communication device, and then determines a delay budget of the first data packet from the communication device to a terminal device based on the transmission delay and an end-to-end packet delay budget.
