Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for identifying objects of interest during an air search and rescue (SAR) operation. The method comprises detecting an object of interest near a SAR pattern with a sensor onboard an aircraft. The location of the object of interest is input into a visual display system that is shown to an aircrew member. Distinct symbols are automatically added to categorize the object of interest on the visual display system. The distinct symbols are confirmed by the aircrew member accurately categorize the object of interest.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for displaying differential ground speed for traffic surrounding an aircraft. The system includes an aircraft control panel in a cockpit of an ownship aircraft and a digital traffic display located on the control panel. The digital traffic display provides cockpit display of traffic information (CDTI) that shows a speed scale with a graphical display of the ground speed of the ownship aircraft and the ground speed of traffic to follow (TTF). The separation scale also shows a graphical display of a separation distance between the ownship aircraft and the TTF. A change in separation distance is calculated based of the difference in ground speed between the ownship aircraft and the TTF. An advisory/warning indicator that shows a color-coded status of the change in separation distance in comparison a pre-determined desired separation distance between the ownship aircraft and the TTF.

One method involves identifying a displayed location of an active cursor overlying a first navigational map graphical user interface (GUI) display, determining a geographic reference point on the first navigational map GUI corresponding to the displayed location of the active cursor, determining a location for a virtual cursor to be displayed on a second navigational map GUI display corresponding to the geographic reference point on the first navigational map GUI display and concurrently displaying the virtual cursor at the determined location overlying the second navigational map.
