Abstract: Methods for enhancing the coherence of superconducting quantum bits with electric fields are disclosed comprising providing at least one qubit electrode comprising detrimental defects and intrinsic qubit resonance; and applying an intrinsic parameter of an electric field to the qubit electrode in order to tune the defects away from the qubit resonance, so that the energy relaxation time T1 of the qubit increases.
