    Abstract: A user equipment (UE) that supports a plurality of radio access technologies (RATs) can implement a method for communicating with a radio access network (RAN). The method includes detecting (402C), by processing hardware, that an application executing on an operating system (OS) invoked an application programming interface (API) that passes information to lower one or more layers of a protocol stack, for facilitating RAT selection. The method also includes receiving (404C), via the API at the lower one or more layers, a parameter related to data the application expects to communicate within a certain period of time with the RAN, including receiving the parameter before the lower one or more layers receives the data from the application or the RAN. The method further includes causing (406C) at least one RAT to be selected from the plurality of RATs based at least in part on the parameter, for communicating the data.

    Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described for adaptive selection of a network access mode by a user equipment. In aspects, a user equipment (UE) indicates, to a RAN, support for at least a first network access mode and a second network access mode and receives directions to operate in the first network access mode. While communicating in the RAN using the first network access mode, the UE detects a trigger event and determines to use the second network access mode based on at least one operational performance metric. In aspects, the UE indicates (740), to the RAN, that the UE supports the second network access mode without indicating that the UE supports the first network access mode, and transitions from the first network access mode to the second network access mode. The UE then communicates in the RAN using the second network access mode.

The UE may store a global parameter whose value is indicative of the maximum UL/DL duty cycle.

    Abstract: This document describes methods, devices, systems, and means for alerting a user equipment, UE, to an overcrowding situation by network entity, the network entity storing UE identifiers and region identifiers, already known to the network entity, for multiple UEs and for each region identifier, determining a number of UEs in a spatial region associated with the region identifier. The network entity compares comparing the determined number of UEs with a region identifier to a first threshold value. If the determined number of UEs in the spatial region exceeds the first threshold value, the network entity transmits a first message including a warning message indicator to UEs in the spatial region, the warning message indicator providing an indication of warning message parameters and, based on the warning message parameters, broadcasts a second message to the UEs in the spatial region.
