Abstract: Ceramic matrix composite articles include, for example a first plurality of plies of ceramic fibers in a ceramic matrix defining a first extent, and a local at least one second ply in said ceramic matrix defining a second extent on and/or in said first plurality of plies with the second extent being less than said first extent. The first plurality of plies has a first property, the at least one second ply has at least one second property, and said first property being different from said at least one second property. The different properties may include one or more different mechanical (stress/strain) properties, one or more different thermal conductivity properties, one or more different electrical conductivity properties, one or more different other properties, and combinations thereof.

Abstract: A temperature measurement system includes at least one temperature measurement probe. The at least one temperature measurement probe includes at least one hollow filament configured to emit thermal radiation in a predetermined and substantially continuous wavelength band at least partially representative of a temperature of the at least one hollow filament. The at least one hollow filament has a first diameter and a first emissivity. The at least one temperature measurement probe also includes at least one thin filament extending within at least a portion of the at least one hollow filament. The at least one thin filament is configured to emit thermal radiation in a predetermined and substantially continuous wavelength band at least partially representative of a temperature of the at least one thin filament. The at least one thin filament has a second emissivity and a second diameter less than the first diameter.

Abstract: A system for determining a decrease in service life to a target component is provided. The system includes a service life modeling (SLM) computing device, which identifies a physics variable for a test component. The SLM computing device generates a likelihood function for the physics variable. The SLM computing device applies probabilistic techniques to the physical measurements together with a set of coefficients. The SLM computing device generates a hybrid service life model for the test component. The SLM computing device calibrates the hybrid service life model. The SLM computing device applies the hybrid service life model to a target component that shares characteristics with the test component. The SLM computing device identifies a predictive metric for the target component. The SLM computing device outputs the metric. The SLM computing device directs an operator to modify a maintenance plan for the target component based on the metric.
