Abstract:
A negative-working lithographic printing plate precursor has a substrate and an imageable layer disposed on the substrate. This imageable is removable with a lithographic printing ink, a fountain solution, or both. The imageable layer comprises (A) a free radical polymerizable compound, (B) a free radical polymerization initiator, and (C) a polymer that has a polysaccharide backbone and a free radical polymerizable group that is different than (A). Such precursors are on-press developable and exhibit excellent on-press development stability over time and excellent printing properties.

A negative-working, infrared radiation-sensitive lithographic printing plate precursor is exposed and processed on-press to provide a lithographic printing plate. This precursor has an infrared radiation-sensitive imageable layer comprises free radical imaging chemistry; an infrared radiation absorber; a particulate primary polymeric binder comprising polyalkylene oxide segments having an average particle size (D1) of at least 50 nm and up to and including 1000 nm; and a particulate secondary resin having an average particle size (D2) of at least 3 μm and up to and including 10 μm. The imageable layer has an average dry thickness (t) of at least 1 μm and up to and including 4 μm and satisfies Equation (1): D2/1.4>t>D1 (1) and the average dry thickness (t) is defined by Equation (2): t=w/r (2) wherein w is the dry coverage of the imageable layer in g/m2 and r is 1 g/cm3.

An object of the present invention is to provide a lithographic printing plate precursor which exhibits satisfactory developability using a developing solution having the pH of 12 or lower and has long print run length and satisfactory scratch resistance, and also exhibits improved ink receptivity.Disclosed is a positive-working lithographic printing plate precursor comprising a substrate having thereon an image forming layer comprising a water-insoluble and alkali-soluble or alkali-dispersible resin in an aqueous alkali solution, wherein the image forming layer comprises at least a lower layer and an upper layer, and the resin of one of the lower layer and the upper layer, or both of the lower layer and the upper layer comprises a polyurethane including a unit comprising a substituent having an acidic hydrogen atom and a unit represented by the following general formula (I): wherein Rf is an alkyl or polyether group in which at least 50% of hydrogen atoms have been fluorinated, R1 is a hydrogen atom, or a substituted or non-substituted alkyl group, m is 0 or 1 to 10, n is 1 to 30, and x is 1 to 4.
