Abstract: The disclosure describes an improved apparatus and methods for electrically activating a desired load device and for determining whether the desired load device is operating properly. The preferred embodiment described in the specification comprises a sensor, such as a photoelectric cell, for generating an indicating signal if the desired load device, such as an automobile headlight, is operating properly. The sensor is connected to a send-receive module that applies a coded control signal to a signal transmitting path in response to the indicating signal. The signal transmitting path is connected to a receive module that receives the coded control signal and activates a control device, such as a display lamp, which indicates whether the automobile headlight is operating properly. The send-receive module receives another coded control signal over the signal transmitting path that operates the load device. Both the send-receive module and the receive module preferably comprise binary counters that respond to the coded control signals.
