摘要: A cross-beam helicopter rotor in which the torque tube enveloping the flexible spar is supported in relation thereto by an elastomeric primary snubber which is readily replaceable in the field and which utilizes a snubber retainer plate bonded to the spar with an elastomer layer of selected shape factor so that the retainer plate remains adhered to the spar while accommodating all blade and spar pitch and flapping motions and so that the retainer plate elastomer layer is substantially more durable than the elastomer layers of the primary snubber. This primary snubber may be used in combination with an auxiliary snubber.

摘要: A helicopter rotor having an even number of articulated blades wherein opposing blades are interconnected by a common spar passing across the rotor axis. Pitch change is introduced to the blade at the spar-blade attachment joint through a torque member connected at its outboard end to the blade joint and including a control horn at its inner end to receive pitch inputs. Drive for the rotor and support for each blade is provided by a spherical bearing directly connecting the torque member to the blade associated hub arm.

摘要: An athermal packaging for a span of optical fiber having a Bragg grating to counteract a shift in the wavelength reflected light caused by a change in temperature of the span. The packaging is made from a resin system reinforced by a layer of contrahelically wound (and in some applications braided) reinforcing fibers and further reinforced by reinforcing fibers disposed substantially parallel to the axis of the span of the optical fiber. The reinforcing fibers are typically KEVLAR fibers. In some applications, a bulge is provided in the optical fiber on both sides of the span of the optical fiber having the Bragg grating and the athermal packaging is molded over at least a portion of both bulges as well as over the intervening span having the Bragg grating, thus creating mechanical interference against slippage of the athermal packaging during expansion of the optical fiber in response to an increase in temperature.

摘要: A method of fabricating a fiber reinforced resin composite article having tubular structures that has improved density and fewer voids. The method comprises laying up a prepreg that has at least two tubular structures and disposing a thermally conductive metallic support structure within and in contact with the tubular structures. The prepreg is disposed within and in substantially complete contact with a tool which has at least one hole. An expandable bag having at least one opening in communication with a tube is inserted within each tubular structure thereby forming a void space between the bag and the tubular structure. The void space is substantially filled with a solid flowable particulate silicone rubber that contacts the prepreg and the tube is sealed to edge of hole in the tool. The solid flowable rubber is caused to transfer a substantially uniform predetermined pressure to the surface of the prepreg by pressurizing the expandable bag. The composite prepreg is exposed to heat by conducting heat through the thermally conductive metallic support structure in order to cure the composite article.

摘要: Improved methods and apparatuses for directly monitoring well casing strain and structural integrity are disclosed that allows for monitoring of potentially damaging strain from any orientation or mode and over long stretches of well casing. In a preferred embodiment, optical fiber sensors are housed within a housing and attached to the exterior surface of the casing. The sensors may be aligned parallel, perpendicular, or at an appropriate angle to the axis of the casing to detect axial, hoop, and shear stresses respectively. The sensors are preferably interferometrically interrogatable and are capable of measuring both static and dynamic strains such as those emitted from microfractures in the well casing.

摘要: A helicopter hub main retention plate is described made up of graphite and glass fiber reinforced epoxy resin. The graphite fiber reinforcement is in-plane isotropically laid continuous graphite fibers and the glass fiber reinforcement comprises segments of fiberglass continuously and circumferentially wound around the areas of retention. Such materials and configuration provide crack resistance, damage tolerance, and integrity inspectability to the retention plate.

摘要: A dynamic pressure sensor with measures for its operation in high temperature and high pressure environments. The sensor uses at least one winding about a deformable mandrel of an optical fiber inscribed by a Bragg grating at its beginning and another at the end of the winding. To counter the effects of high ambient static pressure and temperature, various steps are taken: the mandrel is filled with a high-viscosity low bulk modulus fluid, such as a silicone fluid, and is provided with a baffle system that regulates the flow of the fluid between spans around which the optical fiber is wound. The baffle system is based either on protuberances on a core rod inserted into the mandrel and a system of pinhole size passageways through the protuberances, or based on an open cell foam or fibrous material located on a core rod within a span covered by a stiff jacket. In addition, in high pressure gradient applications, the mandrel is pinched off at different locations along its length. To keep static strain low in the optical fiber windings, the mandrel is covered with materials soft enough that the tension-wound optical fiber can cut into the materials instead of building up unacceptable static strain.
