Abstract:
A method of reading at least one bar code carried by a substrate, the method including: a) generating, especially in an automatic manner, when presenting the bar code to a system for reading the bar code, at least one authentication cue related to an intrinsic physical characteristic of the substrate and independent of the data contained in the bar code, and b) allowing the reading of the bar code, only in the event of a positive authentication of the substrate or reading the bar code regardless of the result of the authentication of the substrate and in the event of negative authentication of the substrate, preventing access to just one part of the data contained in the bar code and/or to any data that may be associated with the bar code, and which is stored on a separate data medium from the substrate.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a self-adhesive or heat-sealable security information medium designed to be applied to a page of a security document and to receive printing and/or writing, comprising an adhesive layer and at least one covering layer that covers the adhesive layer, characterized in that the cohesive strength of the covering layer is less than the adhesive strength of the adhesive layer. The invention also relates to a method for the security protection of a page of a security document and to a security protection feature used in the security protection method. The invention also relates to a page of a security document possessing said security protection feature and to a passport possessing said page.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for manufacturing elements of relatively small size, especially such as planchettes, comprising the following steps: a wound sheet is unwound, then optionally, this sheet is printed at least partly on at least one side and then the sheet is cut deeply “right through” along a succession of at least two cutting patterns that intersect so as to constitute a resulting pattern that will form a detached element constituting the element of relatively small size, this cutting operation taking place by means of a succession of synchronized cutting cylinders carrying one of the cutting patterns respectively, anvil cylinders being interposed between these cutting cylinders, the sheet passing between all these cylinders and the detached elements that form said elements of relatively small size are recovered. It also relates in particular to the method of cutting out said elements, to the corresponding devices, to said elements and to the sheet containing them. Application to security or decorative elements and to security-protected or decorative papers.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device (10) for making an antitheft link between two objects, the device comprising an envelope (20) of heat-shrink plastics material whose walls are locally brought together along a common generator line (23) to form both a main compartment (24) which is open at both ends and which is designed to envelop one of the two objects to be connected together, and an auxiliary compartment in which an elongate pin is disposed. The device has a wall (31) provided on the other object (30) with a narrow longitudinal slot (32) formed therein that is open at one of its ends, said slot being dimensioned to enable the envelope to be inserted level with its common generator line (23) so that the elongate pin co-operates with the wall (31) to provide the link between said other object and the envelope which has been heat-shrunk on the first object, and to enable the inserted envelope (20) to be locked into place by means (36) closing the open end of the slot (32).
Abstract:
A semi-automatic machine for affixing an anti-theft device, such as an EAS marker, to an article of clothing or the like. The anti-theft device is of the type made up of two elements that are to be snapped together through the article of clothing. Each of the two kinds of elements is stored in a respective vibrating bowl and transferred to an assembly station by a respective vibrating conveyor. One of the two elements is positioned on a working surface at the assembly station. The second element is taken up by a snap-connection mechanism. A laser provides a reference mark at the working surface so that an operator can precisely position a desired part of the article of clothing for receiving the anti-theft device. After the article is positioned in accordance with the reference mark, the snap-connection mechanism is actuated to insert the second element into the first element through the article of clothing.
