摘要： A method of processing information items, the method comprises the steps of: for an information item comprising primarily text information: analysing text information of the information item to detect a set of constituent information elements relating to that information item; detecting for each of the constituent information elements a respective degree of relative significance based on the frequency and/or nature of occurrence of the constituent information elements with respect to that information item; selecting a subset of at least two most significant constituent information elements; and generating a pseudo-image representative of the information item, the representative pseudo-image comprising the selected subset of constituent information elements arranged in a predetermined image layout such that: the most significant constituent information element of the subset is represented with most prominence and at a first predetermined region within the representative pseudo-image; and the one or more other constituent information element(s) of the subset are represented at other predetermined regions of the representative pseudo-image in dependence on the corresponding degree of relative significance of those element(s).

摘要： An information retrieval system in which a set of distinct information items map to respective nodes in an array of nodes by mutual similarity of the information items, so that similar information items map to nodes at similar positions in the array of nodes; the system comprising: a user control for defining a search criterion for selecting information items; a detector for detecting those positions within the array of nodes corresponding to the selected information items; a graphical user interface for displaying a two-dimensional display array of display points representing those positions within the array of nodes corresponding to the selected information items; and a processor responsive to the selected information items, for providing a representation which is generally representative of the information content of the selected information items.

摘要： An information retrieval system in which a set of distinct information items map to respective nodes in an array of nodes by mutual similarity of the information items, so that similar information items map to nodes at similar positions in the array of nodes comprises: a graphical user interface for displaying a representation of at least some of the nodes as a two-dimensional display array of display points within a display area on a user display; a user control for defining a two-dimensional region of the display area; and a detector for detecting those display points lying within the two-dimensional region of the display area; the graphical user interface also displaying a list of data representing information items, being those information items mapped onto nodes corresponding to display points displayed within the two-dimensional region of the display area.

摘要： Video processing comprises storing data relating to images of a video signal captured over at least a reference period relative to a current image of the video signal; comparing the current image with a reference image of the video signal captured within the reference period, so as to detect image features in the current image representing changes with respect to a corresponding position in the reference image; detecting whether a detected image feature in the current image has remained at substantially the same image position over a group of images preceding the current image; and displaying the current image with an indication of any such image features and an indication of the duration of the presence of the image feature at that image position.
