摘要: A location, dimension, and height of an object can be determined and measured using shadows. The object is located on a surface and an array of lights is mounted over the surface and shines on the object. The surface can be switchable between a translucent state and a transparent state. A colored shadow occurs based on the color of the light that shines on the object, where red, green, and blue are the typical colors used to provide shadows. A camera that is located below the surface captures an image of the shadows. The camera can be a color camera or a monochrome camera. The image is processed using thresholding to segment the different types of shadows that can occur. With the shadows, calculations can be made to determine the location, dimension, and height of the object.

摘要: A presentation scanner allows an operator to easily place an object being scanned within the scanner's field of view in order to enhance usability of the scanner. A partially transmitting and partially reflecting surface, like a mirror, is used. An aiming pattern or target indicator is projected from an aiming source to the surface. The aiming pattern or target indicator is seen by an operator who aligns the object, which is reflected from the surface back to the operator, to be placed over or within the aiming pattern that appears at the surface. Once aligned, a camera captures the image of the optical code.

摘要: A data reading system and method, such as for reading optical codes on objects being passed through a read zone, including one or more imagers and at least one illumination module having a reflector housing that includes a baffle structure with a first inner surface and a second inner surface, and a light source disposed at the rear end of the reflector housing and operative to generate illumination out through the baffle structure along an outgoing illumination path, wherein at least one of the inner surfaces of the baffle structure comprises a dielectric material operative to exhibit high reflectivity to light rays from the light source impinging at a high incidence angle and to exhibit low reflectivity to light rays from the light source impinging at a low incidence angle, thereby minimizing stray light impinging on the eyes of the operator while maximizing on-target illumination.
