摘要: A deployment and retraction mechanism for a surgical instrument includes a gear box defining a longitudinal slot, a slider, a ring gear, and a planet gear. The slider is configured to engage a deployable component of the surgical instrument and is translatable along the longitudinal slot between a proximal end, corresponding to a storage condition of the deployable component, and a distal end, corresponding to a use condition of the deployable component. The planet gear is operably engaged with the ring gear and configured to orbit within the ring gear. The planet gear includes an off-center pin rotatably supporting the slider thereon. The planet gear and ring gear are configured such that a one-half orbit of the planet gear within the ring gear translates the slider from one end of the longitudinal slot to the other end of the longitudinal slot.

The electrosurgical pencil also includes a nozzle disposed within the first lumen and defining a second lumen, the nozzle being movable relative to and within the handle housing and extending proximally past the proximal end portion of the handle housing. The electrosurgical pencil may further include a swivel connector coupled to the distal end portion of the handle housing, the swivel connector configured to couple to a suction source. The electrosurgical pencil includes a hub assembly securedly disposed within the second lumen, the hub assembly including a conductive tube configured to couple to a source of electrosurgical energy, and an electrode slidably disposed within the conductive tube, the electrode being movable relative to and within the conductive tube.

摘要: A vessel sealing instrument includes a housing having a shaft extending from a distal end thereof having an end effector assembly including a pair of opposing first and second jaw members operably coupled thereto. A drive assembly is disposed within the housing and is configured to move the jaw members upon actuation thereof between an open position and a closed position for clamping tissue with a closure pressure within the range of about 3 kg/cm2 to about 16 kg/cm2. An anti-backdrive assembly is operably disposed within the housing and includes a drive wedge. A solenoid controller is operably coupled to the drive wedge and is configured to selectively move the drive wedge into the drive assembly upon activation thereof to increase the closure pressure between the jaw members in response to tissue expansion during sealing.

摘要: A surgical instrument includes a housing having a shaft extending distally therefrom, an end effector assembly disposed at a distal end of the shaft, a handle assembly coupled to the housing for manipulating the end effector assembly, a deployable assembly, at least one actuator for deploying and retracting the deployable assembly, and a closure member. The closure member is keyed to the actuator(s) and operably positioned relative to the movable handle of the handle assembly such that, upon rotation of the actuator(s) relative to the housing from an un-actuated position to an actuated position, the closure member is urged into contact with the movable handle to urge the movable handle from an initial position to a compressed position, thereby moving the end effector assembly to an approximated position.

摘要: An electrosurgical pencil includes a handle housing defining a fluid lumen and a central longitudinal axis. A nozzle defines a fluid lumen in fluid communication with the fluid lumen defined by the handle housing for evacuating fluid from a surgical site. The nozzle includes a slot configured to receive a nub protruding from the distal end portion of the handle housing to releasably couple the nozzle to the handle housing. An electrode configured to deliver electrosurgical energy to tissue has a proximal portion coupled to the handle housing and a distal portion extending through the fluid lumen defined by the nozzle. At least a portion of the electrode extends distally from a distal end of the nozzle. The electrode defines a central longitudinal axis offset from the central longitudinal axis defined by the handle housing.

An anti-backdrive mechanism is operably associated with the end effector assembly, the anti-backdrive mechanism including first and second mesh-like electrodes disposed in opposing relation on respective first and second jaw members and including openings defined therein. The first and second mesh-like electrodes compressible between a first configuration for grasping tissue wherein the openings defined within each mesh-like electrode include a first diameter to a second configuration for sealing tissue wherein the openings defined within each mesh-like electrode expand to a second diameter configured to release steam upon activation.

摘要: A deployment and retraction mechanism for deploying and retracting a deployable component of a surgical instrument includes a gear assembly, a slider, and one or more actuators. The slider is translatable between a proximal position, corresponding to a storage condition of the deployable component, and a distal position, corresponding to a use condition of the deployable component. The actuator(s) is coupled to the gear assembly and is movable from an un-actuated position to an actuated position. The gear assembly is configured such that a full actuation and subsequent release of the actuator(s) translates the slider from one of the proximal or distal positions to the other of the proximal or distal positions while a partial actuation and subsequent release of the actuator(s) translates the slider from one of the proximal or distal positions to an intermediate position and back to the one of the proximal or distal positions.

摘要: A method for manufacturing an end effector assembly includes providing first and second jaw members moveable relative to one another about a pivot between a first, spaced-apart position and a second, approximated position. One of the first and second jaw members includes a cavity defined therein and the other of the first and second jaw members includes a stop member configured to be inserted into the cavity. A gap-setting gauge is grasped between the first and second jaw members to define a gap-distance between the jaw members equivalent to a thickness of the gap-setting gauge. The first and second jaw members are set such that the jaw members are prevented from approximation beyond the gap-distance.

One or both of the jaw members is moveable between open and closed positions for clamping tissue with a closure pressure. One or both of the jaw members connects to a generator that provides energy thereto in accordance with a sealing algorithm upon activation thereof. An anti-backdrive mechanism is coupled to the end effector assembly and includes a drive shaft coupled at one end to a solenoid and another end that engages one of the jaw members upon extension thereof to provide additional closure pressure between the jaw members. The drive shaft is extendible by the solenoid to extend the drive shaft in response to tissue expansion during sealing based on the sealing algorithm.
