A microwave oven includes a pair of terminal members for connecting between a power source and a high voltage transformer, respectively. The terminal members are isolated electrically from each other by means of remote-locating, respectively. A conducting member is installed in the door, and both ends thereof are revealed on the one side of the door. The pair of terminal members contact with ends of the conducting member when the door is closed. Then, the supply of current supplied from electrical power to the high voltage transformer is controlled. Accordingly, the structure of the microwave oven is simplified. The AC/DC type microwave oven is capable of being prevented from encountering faulty switching operations according to large amounts of direct current when the DC input power source is used.

A method for making a commutator comprising steps of arranging at least one pair of commutator members to be spaced apart from each other, and molding a product by injecting an insulating resin; shaping the product to the product having a real circular sectional cross section; heating the product to a predetermined temperature; cutting protruding resin portions between the commutator members, to the align outer circumference of the commutator body with the outer surfaces of the commutator members. The predetermined temperature is that which rises when the commutator is rotated, and accordingly the predetermined temperature ranges from sixty to eighty degrees Centigrade (60° C.-80° C.). The finished commutator has grooves on the commutator body between the commutator members. The grooves undergo thermal expansion when the commutator is rotated and the temperature rises to a predetermined degree, so that the commutator has a real circular sectional cross section. Accordingly, the contact between the commutator and the input and output brushes is properly performed, and no noise occurs.

Disclosed is a rotatable inverter. The rotatable inverter comprises a rotatable inverting means for inverting a DC power source to an AC power source by means of a rotational force, and a transformer which receives the AC power source inverted by the rotatable inverting means and outputs a predetermined higher voltage. The rotatable inverting means comprises a motor generating the rotational force, a commutator driven by the motor and a plurality of brushes which are respectively contacted with the outer surface of the commutator. The commutator comprises a cylindrical body made of an insulating material, and conductive parts which are divided into an even-number by non-conductive parts, respectively, having a desired width. Further, it is preferable that the cooling fan is coupled to the motor along with the commutator. Therefore, the manufacturing cost is lowered, the attrition rate of the current is lowered, the energy lost by heat is decreased, the size of the microwave oven can be smaller, and the output frequency from the rotatable inverter can be controlled to be kept constant and the microwaves are also more stably radiated.

An AC/DC type microwave oven has a function of managing an input power source. The AC/DC type microwave oven comprises a rotatable inverter which inverts a DC power source to an AC power source by a rotational force, a high voltage transformer which receives a common power source or an AC power inverted by the rotatable inverter and outputs a higher voltage, a magnetron which is driven by the high voltage outputted from the high voltage transformer and radiates a microwave and a power control unit for sensing a signal from a power selecting key and preventing the AC and DC power sources from being simultaneously inputted. Therefore, both of AC power and DC power are prevented from being simultaneously supplied to the microwave oven which could result in a malfunction, or an overload occurs in the electric components of the microwave oven. Therefore, only one input power of the common and DC power sources is selected and, the microwave oven is operated properly. The remaining voltage of the battery is always detected and displayed through the display, thereby preventing a complete discharge of the battery.

A non-directional frequency generator for converting direct current into alternating current includes a direct current input end connected with a direct current power source and an alternating current output end connected with an alternating current output section to prevent a spark of the non-directional frequency generator. The non-directional frequency generator converts direct current inputted from the direct current power source into alternating current, and outputs the alternating current to the alternating current output section. First and second switching sections are connected with the direct current input end and the alternating current output end in order to control the conducting status of the direct current input end and the alternating current output end of the non-directional frequency generator, respectively. A third switching section is connected in parallel with the first switching section, and is intermittently switched on when the second switching section is switched on and the first switching section is switched off. The first and second switching sections are relays, while the third switching section is an integrated gate bipolar transistor. When direct current is applied, a microcomputer switches on the non-directional frequency generator and the second switching section, and intermittently applies the direct current to the non-directional frequency generator through switching means until the first switching section is switched on. Accordingly, difference between impedances of input and output sides of the non-directional frequency generator is decreased, and the spark is prevented. Further, since direct current is intermittently applied during a brush-on period in which a conductive part and a brush of the non-directional frequency generator are in contact, the spark which is caused at the beginnings of the brush-on/off periods, is also prevented.

A magnetron driving circuit has a DC/AC conversion section, a transformer, and a capacitor. The DC/AC conversion section converts a direct current inputted from a direct current power source into an alternating current, and outputs the alternating current. The transformer has a primary coil and a secondary coil. The transformer raises a voltage of the alternating current outputted from the DC/AC conversion section and then induces the raised voltage from the primary coil to the secondary coil. The capacitor forms an inductance/capacitance resonance circuit by being connected in parallel with the secondary coil. Thus, in the magnetron driving circuit driven by the direct current power source, since the capacitor with a small capacitance is connected in parallel with the secondary coil of the transformer, the reverse surge voltage induced at the primary coil of the transformer is decreased sharply.

A non-directional frequency generator spark prevention apparatus including a plurality of electric connections connected with a direct current power source, i.e., brushes, and a commutator for converting direct current waveform inputted through the brushes into alternating current waveform by rotational movement thereof, and for outputting the alternating current waveform. A voltage pulse controlling part is connected between the brushes of the non-directional frequency generator, while having a resistor and a transistor which are connected in series with each other, and the transistor is operated synchronously with the rotation of the commutator of the non-directional frequency generator. By controlling the electric current to flow through the transistor during the brush-off period, a spark production during the brush-off period can be prevented. Further, by controlling the transistor to be turned off during a predetermined period between a predetermined time of the brush-off period to a predetermined time of the brush-on period, the electric current does not flow through the transistor at the beginning of the brush-on period, and accordingly, the spark production at the beginning of the brush-on period is prevented. A corresponding pulse generating part includes a photo-interrupter and a photo sensor, for generating a predetermined pulse waveform corresponding to the rotation of the commutator. Based on the pulse waveform, the transistor is operated, and accordingly, the transistor precisely synchronizes with the rotation of the commutator of the non-directional frequency generator.
