Abstract: An antimicrobial glass-based article comprises: a first major surface opposing a second major surface. A first surface region extends 1 micron into the article from the first major surface. The first surface region has an average Ag2O concentration across the first surface region of equal to or greater than 10 mol % and equal to or less than 30 mol %, and a surface roughness Ra of 100 nm or greater.
