    Abstract: Glass compositions include bismuth oxide (Bi2O3) in an amount of greater than or equal to 0.05 mol.% and less than or equal to 10 mol.%, one or more of boron oxide (B2O3), silica (SiO2) and phosphorus oxide (P2O5), and one or more of niobia (Nb2O5) and titania (TiO2) as essential components, and may optionally include lanthanum oxide (La2O3), tungsten oxide (WO3), zirconia (ZrO2), yttria (Y2O3), barium oxide (BaO) and other components. The glasses may be characterized by high refractive index at 587.56 nm at comparably low density at room temperature.

    Abstract: Glass compositions having from 50 to 80 mol % SiO2, less than or equal to 25 mol % Al2O3, from 6.5 to 10.0 mol % Li2O and, optionally, other components, such as alkali metal oxides, alkaline earth metal oxides, zinc oxide, phosphorus oxides, rare earth metal oxides, boron oxide, and small amounts of other species, such as titania, zirconia, and tin oxide. The glass compositions are characterized by zero or positive values of the ratios, in terms of mol %: Al2O3−ΣR2O≥0, or Al2O3−ΣR2O−ΣRO≥0, or Al2O3−ΣR2O−ΣRO—P2O5≥0, where R2O means alkali metal oxides and RO means divalent metal oxides. The glass compositions may have a liquidus viscosity greater than or equal to 1000 Poises to less than or equal to 300,000 Poises.

    Abstract: Glasses containing silicon dioxide (SiO2) and/or boron oxide (B2O3) as glass formers and having a refractive index nd of greater than or equal to 1.9, as measured at 587.56 nm, and a density of less than or equal to 5.5 g/cm3, as measured at 25° C., are provided. Optionally, the glasses may be characterized by a high transmittance in the visible and near-ultraviolet (near-UV) range of the electromagnetic spectrum and/or good glass forming ability.
