Abstract: A rubber composition is provided that includes a partially halogenated diene polymer that has a controllable microstructure, and no more than about 50% of the n repeat units are in blocks of three or more consecutive units. In embodiments, a reinforcing filler is also included in the rubber composition. In embodiment, the rubber composition is formed into a tire component. A method of making the composition is also provided.

Abstract: Provided herein are cured rubber compositions containing guayule natural rubber with 2.5-4 weight % resin and fillers. By the use of a specified cure package that contains increased amounts of sulfur and accelerator, the cured rubber compositions are found to exhibit strain induced crystallization (as can be observed by X-ray diffraction). Also provided are related methods for preparing the rubber compositions.

Modification methods include irradiating the fibers, compressing and straining the fibers under a constant pull force and immersing the fibers in a coupling agent fluid. The treated fibers can be used with elastomers and provide reinforcement elements in products such as tires.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to rubber compositions containing a chemical additive capable of generating or enhancing strain-induced crystallization into the compositions, and tires containing the rubber compositions in one or more components such as sidewalls or treads. The chemical additive is at least one nucleating agent of formula (I) or formula (II). As well, certain embodiments relate to methods for achieving reduced wear or improved durability in a tire tread or tire sidewall by using the chemical additives.
