Abstract: A thin film thermal device comprises an MIS structure fabricated on a low thermal conductivity insulator. A first DC bias and AC signal input are applied across the metal layer and a second DC bias is applied across, and the AC signal output taken from, the semiconductor layer. The device operates as an audio amplifier if the first DC bias current is greater than the second and operates as a frequency doubler if the first DC bias current is zero.
