    Abstract: A waveguide structure having a compliant effectively continuous support is obtained by wrapping an elongated compliant member such as a rubber tube, a stranded compliant member or a coiled wire around a waveguide in a helical or braided pattern and then inserting the waveguide into a conduit. The pitch of the helix, the elastic modulus of the material, and wall thickness of the compliant member can be varied to change the stiffness of the support and to minimize electrical losses due to both weight loading induced deflections and deflections caused by earth forces on the conduit.

    Abstract: A waveguide structure is formed by supporting a waveguide section within a section of conduit by a low modulus continuous support material such as oil extended rubber which fills the space between the waveguide and conduit.     Abstract: A waveguide structure utilizes roller spring supports for supporting a waveguide in a conduit to simultaneously provide a compliant support and allow free relative longitudinal movement between the waveguide and the conduit. A tension band having a plurality of spring assemblies integrally formed therewith is fastened about the periphery of the waveguide. Rollers are mounted on the spring assemblies in contact with the conduit to allow free relative longitudinal movement of the waveguide and conduit. The spring assemblies provide a soft compliant support throughout a range of deflections accommodating the worst expected thermal loading conditions in route bends. Under higher loading the spring assemblies bottom out and provide a stiff support to prevent further radial deflection of the waveguide with respect to the conduit.
