Abstract: Radiation emitted from a subject positioned on a programmable X, Y platform is directed through a multi-plane focused collimator and is detected by means of an array of sensing devices. The collimator comprises a registered stack of photoetched plates, each plate formed with a series of hole sets and each stack of hole sets defines downwardly converging collimator bores. One hole set is distinguished from another hole set by different hole profiles, each hole profile defining a specific focal length. The platform, which is in spaced relationship with the collimator, is moved incrementally along its X and Y axes in steps defining a programmed scanning pattern, each step being an integral multiple of the distance between adjacent sensing devices. The number of radioactive events detected at each step is temporarily held in a buffer memory and then applied to a digital data storage unit in a computer. Upon completion of the programmed scanning sequence, the stored data, which represents the radioactivity detected at various depth of the subject, is applied to a display for presentation as a composite half tone pictorial representation of the detected radioactive events.

Abstract: In a radioactivity-distribution detector, an array of light conduits in spaced relation to a plurality of visible light emitters defining a grid network is provided for identifying and specifying the location of an active or light generating emitter. The conduits are disposed in a plurality of row pairs, the first of the pair being in bisecting staggered spaced relation to the second of the pair. Specific ones of the light emitters are in exclusive spatial relationship with selected ones of the light conduits and other ones of the light emitters are in spatial relationship with a specified combination of light conduits, whereby each emitter is identified by either a single light conduit or a unique combination of light conduits.

Abstract: A zone grid assembly for flagging specified X,Y memory locations for accumulated data analysis and for presentation on a display in connection with a radioactivity distribution detection system. The zone grid assembly includes a printed circuit board formed with a plurality of holes and a pair of arcuate conductors disposed diametrically opposite one another about the periphery of each hole. A plurality of electrically conducting and magnetically responsive balls are slidably received within the zone grid assembly in such a manner that each ball is adapted for engagement and disengagement with one pair of conductors. A magnetic stylus held in spaced relationship with the zone grid assembly operates to actuate a ball in registration therewith into engagement with its associated pair of conductors. In consequence, the engaged pair of conductors are electrically connected and a signal denoting a particular X,Y position in the zone grid assembly is applied to the memory for processing, each X,Y grid position corresponding to an X,Y address location in the memory.
